• We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just saw this, yes the Aquaclear 110 for the 110 gallon tank you are getting.

I am not having luck loading still pictures. And im not happy with the quality of the video. They are much nicer in person. The goldfish was put in the cycle the tank in the very beginning. He wont be moving in the big tank. Will be going into a 10 gallon in my son's room.

Some shots to track their growth. I noticed some have pretty irridesent blue markings in their face and fins. They also have red chests. I posted more pics in my album. Other uraus ive seen dont have a red chest ..

These are Uaru sp. orange. They have orange chests and their black triangular marking doesn't extend all the way into the caudal peduncle.

I hope you have a bigger tank. They're going to need it really soon!

Hi Ryan,

So these are Uaru Orange Sp? I had no idea they had a color variant. That explains why when they were babies they didnt look like other uaru babies i saw online. They were very pale and light in color.

Yes we have an acrylic 125gallon but it was set up for a saltwater. Has 2 holes in the back for the W/D filter system. We are currently researching filling the holes or should we invest in a W/D filter. Problem is we dont have a ton of room for huge w/d filter unit to sit behind the tank. We are also looking into getting a stand built and all the other supplies for it. So we are progressing with the upgrade. We are also gonna consider building a tank or buying one..whatever is most cost effective at the end of the day.

They look gigantic in that picture. I moved that rock decor out to give them more room. They are about 5-6 inches..ive read they are slow growing from this point on. Im hoping thats the case. We are keeping at least 2 if i can get them to pair up..thats my goal!

Thanks for your comment :)

I have a question. Right now we are doing 50-55% weekly wcs. I am waiting on my 110 Aquaclear filter to arrive it will be replacing my marineland 350. I want to keep the water in tip top shape. Temp is 83-84. Not sure when to start 2 wcs weekly and how much to take out each time..Any tips? Thanks!

Get a nitrate kit and measure your nitrates. With uaru they should be under 20ppm but preferably 10. Uaru do not like dirty water and will eventually develop hole-in-the-head if you don't maintain the water quality. When I raised out my Uaru sp. orange I had seven in a 55 by themselves and did water changes daily.

IMO the growth doesn't really slow down until the fish are 12 - 18 months old. If you feed them well and give them a large enough tank they will make it to 6 - 8" in that time. By two years old they should be at their adult size, usually 8 - 10". The orange variant seems to stay a little smaller than regular amphiacanthoides.

Obviously a 55 won't hold six 8 - 10" fish so start building that stand. ;)

Here are two threads I created on them. In the first one I'd just gotten them and they were probably 3/4" - 1" long. In the second thread they were already at 5" and that was just four months later.

I eventually passed some of the group on to Peter (peathenster) who then got a pair out of them. You can see their full adult size here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?453554-Uaru-sp-orange
