A fairly accurate way to tell is to take the girth measurement, square it, and multiply that times the length (all in inches) and divide the sum by 800.
(Girth x Girth) X Length = the weight of the fish in pounds
800
How to weigh a fish with only measurements
I gotta agree. I've seen a ton of these grouper videos and it happens a lot apparently. The one thing they all have in common is the angler letting his rod touch the boat. Many of the videos are of pro anglers who I'm sure have lovely sponsors and therefor certainly not using cheap rods.oscarcrazy;4053099; said:
Guess you don't know who I am. I have been a fishing guide in Alaska for about 15 years and have more experiance landing fish over 200lbs than most people in the world. I know about rail fishing for tuna as well and that is not even close to what he was doing. When you rail fish you place the rod flat on the gunnel or top rail. Many rods are actually made for rail fishing with extended butt sections. He placed his rod above the put section at an angle. With that fish pulling the way it was and his drag a smidge to tight that rod was under extreme stress. Placing it like he did on the gunnel at that angle was idiotic. But what do I know.
