640gal for 1000 bucks?

It's a tough call if you ask me.A 640 is a BIG tank, but it has a weird foot print.Only 32" deep will limit what you can keep in it. Being 4' tall will make it a PITA to clean. After seeing the pics,it's pretty rough. It will take a lot of work to clean it up.

I have been thinking and the way that the tank is built in the wall at its current location it would be a lot of work to get it out without messing it up.
taking it out would also require the owner to replace the front glass of his gas station making it unfair to ask for a reduction in price.
that being said i think i am going to pass on the tank even though i will probably never get another chance to get a tank that size.
I guess i will wait a little while and just study the diy tanks and build a nice tank later.

+1 on the weird dimensions. If it was 48" depth and 32" height then I'd be all over it with no hesitations.

I stoped and talked to the owner after work today and we agreed on $800.00 and i am not responsible for the tank until it is taken out of the wall and in my possestion. I also have to sell my boat and all of my aquariums but one that will be used as a growout tank.

So yeah, i guess i am buying it afterall.

Nice, but are you going to have to build a stand for it?

I work in a machine shop and i have access to some 6'' i beams and some sheet metal so iam going to get a stand built with three rows of 6'' i beams with a 4' x8' sheet of 1/4 '' plate on top to use as a stand.
its only going to be 8'' off of the ground to make it easier to access from the top.
I know thats not very high but with its 4' height it will bring the top of the tank almost 5' off of the ground.

$800 seems like a fair price as long as it holds water. A little elbow grease and it'll be as good as new. To put it in perspective, I spent well over that amount for my 240.
