75 Bichir Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm afraid that I must respectfully disagree with kentobismol's statement regarding keeping only two bichirs in a 75 gallon tank. You could easily house four of the 'smaller' species of bichir in a 75 gallon tank (Polypterus senegalus, Polypterus palmas subspecies, Polypterus delhezi, Polypterus retropinnis) along with a few other fish.

Anyone else think 3-4 smaller bichir species would be fine? BTW fruitbat your bichirs are awesome looking. I love your beutikofferi palmas i think it was and your ornate. Beautiful fish.

hey FRUITBAT let GUPPY be our judge.

retropinnis get up to 1', but he never said he wanted them.
his list was: delhezi, palmas, senegal, and ornate.
he doesn't want the eels no more.

you don't like this list?

-1 delhezi bichir
-1 senegal bichir
-3 silver dollars
-2 white tip shark(catfish)

hey FRUITBAT, nice looking knifefish and bichirs!
oh by the way THAT DRUMMIn GUY...are you into like eel looking fish?
like skinny long fish? since that's what it sounds to me

I was just hoping to have more than 2 bichirs but i think i will try 4 smaller species, but if it gets ugly I have a 55 that is also empty due to stupid Katrina! And I had a fire eel before but it went completly blind at about 6 inches and didnt make it. He was a great fish though. I am just looking for a tank with interesting fish that when people will see it they will be like whoa thats a cool looking fish, so i figure oddball bichir tank right? I might also try 2 needlefish for the top instead of the silver dollars. They max out at about 11" but don't seem to take up much space or produce a lot of waste. I'm also planning on going empty tank with just sand so no territories will be easily marked.
