750 is on the stand!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Can me and my fish come live with you! But MAN oh man! I think just the work put into figuring all of that out is amazing on its own, i can't even imagine the finished product!!

That tank is awesome.

In regards to the stand, I agree with XXblwn408.

My main concern with the stand would be the 2x4's that you have supporting the middle of the tank, running the width of the tank (from front to back). It looks like they are laid flat (with the 4" side of the 2x4 facing down). In order to provide more strength, the 2" side of the 2x4 should be perpindicular to the ground and you should double them up. But to be honest, if I were you I would take XXblwn408's design and use 2x6s in place of the 2x4s for the middle support beams. With such a wide tank (4') and with that much weight (over 3 tons!) you should use 2x6s. Especially since you are using a sump so you probably can't place a support column in the middle of the stand.

I'm not an engineer, but I'm almost certain that you are going to have some serious sagging in the middle of your stand unless you make some changes.

Sorry if I sound like a hater, but it would be a total pain if you were to set it up and find that it starts to sag, only to have to drain it and change the design.

Can't wait to see the tank up and running. Please post pix when you get it setup.

awesome tank but

are you going to styro foam under there you should if something breaks its going to crack really bad because of the presure also it will level the tank out
just dont want nothing to happen never can be to cautious

People do tend to underestimate the strength of wood. As long as it can't "shift" which I see that you put in triangles for that.
I built one for a smaller tank and the only thing I did different was put in a few metal X's made of metal. I got them at L#wes and put them on each end and the middle just for peace of mind. I can't tell from your pics but I used all screws, no nails. Covering it with wood also strengthens it. I can't wait to see it stocked.

You are both under estimate the weight of a 750 gallon tank full of water, substraite, driftwood and so forth. The tank alone weighs about 800lbs, now add about 6600 lbs just for water, now lets add sand and some deco, oh don't forget the fish. Are you now getting the picture...

Here are the 1st stand i built with 4x4's (it sagged in the center)
Also no foam under the tank.

I did use foam on the 2nd tank, I would highly recommend you use foam under the tank.

^^take it from the guy who owns not one but TWO! 750 gallons
i wouldnt trust the legs only being double 2x4's or even the braces under the tank 2x4's.
sure its holding the tank now but like xxblwn408 said with an extra 6600+pounds i dont think its gonna hold unless you put more reinforcement.

btw xxblwn408 when do i get the invite for see double 750's :grinno::grinno::grinno::grinno::grinno:

i scoop out your black worms hahahahaha

i was gonna say if thats enough for a 750 than my stand is seriously overbuilt, i have the same stand setup on my 260gal. probably a bit overbuilt, but hey better safe then sorry ay.

id pass on wood altogether on a tank that size if u need to brace it that much including xxblwn id seriously think about a metal option if u live in brisbane id be more then happy to make u a gal steel frame for next to nothing

that is an amazing looking tank!!

definitely have to post up photos when its all up and running with fish!

I appreciate all the compliments as well as concerns and I will reinforce the stand some more. i am not going to scrap what I have but I will add a bit more to it. like said I appreciate and don't take offense to the comments and would hate to have it running and then have a problem so soon enough I will add a bunch more supports
