7'x12' Plywood Build For My Rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good advice. Better yet, get a corded drill also. Nothing stinks more than having to wait for batteries to charge. I usually have 2 cordless and 1 corded with me for builds.

I done a little a bit of searching (actually a lot) and couldn't find where it said what kind of screws you were using. So what kind of screws are you using, other than a lot of them?

Yeah don't mind me lol. Meant to say get a couple of corded drills not cordless.

Grip Right Deck screws are what I used. Not the fancy multiple threaded screws they sell and not the cheap black ones. The ones I am using are the gray coated deck screws.

Ran out of 2x4's! Guess it was a good thing considering I am done stacking. Will have some better pictures on Sunday when everything is moved around and in its place.

Looks great!
Have fun moving that..aha!
Still dont get why you didnt build it where its gonna be set up....
Gonna be a real pain to move.

Lookin good my friend, and moving it is not a problem imo... Pvc or metal pipe will make it very easy to roll around alone. Work smart, not hard nay sayers lol...u can use a car jack to put the whole thing up on blocks and pull a trailer under for when u move :). No prob lol..theres probably some 500-1000gal glass tanks that weigh double or triple this tank dry.

Well I wasn't real sure which side of the garage the wife was going to park on. Plus it gives me a chance to clean the garage completely. It looks like a bomb went off in there. I can turn that place into a real disaster in no time lol.

If he plans to move that he's going to need a forklift. Its going to feel like its bolted to the floor trying to move that now.

Moving this isn't going to be as bad as you think. Trust me I have moved bigger and heavier items then this.

Thank you. You and I think the same. They have moved heavier and larger objects for centuries by simply rolling them along to their destination. I was actually going to give some furniture dollies a try first based on the weight at this point being around 1400 pounds. A few boards screwed to the side and use my larger floor jack to lift it up and slide a dolly under each corner. If that fails then I go with some metal rods I have laying around.

Sadly though I am not moving it today. Still cleaning and getting a few other things in place for the tank.

Keep it up silent bob. Im doing the same build as you within the next yr. you'll probably hear from me for a couple of questions. Im going with 10x5x3. You going to keeping anything other than the rays in it? Going to do some type of decor like a log or boulders?

Keep the thread going its a good one. Im curious to know what you're doing for filtration and all of the behind the scenes stuff.
Hope the kid is doing well. Cheers

I'm not a naysayer not saying its impossible to move lol. But its not going to be easy. Jacking it up sliding a dolly's seems like the plan.

Easier then you think. Trust me I have a back that is not the greatest the last thing I need is to end up in physical therapy again. I got this lol.

When you are ready fire away with any questions you may have.

Still undecided on what else I want to keep besides the group of silver dollars I currently have. I will figure that out when the time comes. I have had bass, silver arowana, loaches, and silver dollars all together but may do something different.

For decor I am going to make some tree stumps that I plan to incorporate a couple over the edge style bottom drains. Never ran these types of drains so we shall see how they work out. I have done a ton of research on this type of drain and have put more thought into them then the actual build itself. I could have built a traditional bottom drain into the tank but choose not to with how difficult it would be to service them if there was an issue.

For filtration I have several ways I can go. I was thinking a basic sump setup with several chambers keeping it simple. Large filter pads I can order in bulk with a ton of ceramic rings. Or I can always run the Ultima II I have or the bio reactor I still have. Either way I think I am going to run a sump with one of the other pieces added.

The kid is doing great thanks for asking.
