Do what you want, but just be aware that most other fishkeepers don't have access to the immense collection of fishkeeping knowledge from many thousands of experienced fishkeepers, including quite a few who have college education in fish-related subjects, that we have here on MFK. I kept fish for about 10-11 years before I became a member of this site, and back then, I still believed in the "one-inch per gallon" rule, as well as the "fish grow to the size of the tank" rule, and I basically knew next to nothing about the nitrogen cycle, other than knowing that you have to cycle a tank before putting fish in it; but then joined this forum, and I now know more about the hobby than many other people who have multiple times as much experience as I do... so just keep that in mind.

No, I'm saying that it would be wise to take our advise as opposed to the advise of non-MFK'ers. No one knows everything, but I think it's pretty safe to say that most of the available knowledge of fish could probably be found on this website alone (which can't be said for an lfs). I'm not trying to come off as arrogant, or insulting, that's not at all what I'm trying to do, I'm just saying that you are going to be better off taking advise from members of MFK rather than risking getting false info from another source.

I don't think a ram, let alone a pair would be comfortable in an 8 gallon. Have you considered a small planted tank with some cherry shrimp?

got to love fish humor its somthing only a few of us social outcasts can understand.

8 gal is a bit small id go for guppies they are squiggly as a matter of fact im in the process of making guppy world

neither, not big enough for a ram. I suggest either a nice nano tetra tank or a tanganyikan shelldweller tank.

A single ram needs a minimum of 10g, and double-tripple that for a pair... and the other option would also be overcrowded and you'd have some issues with compatibility.

How about a few dwarf croaking gouramis, a small school (5 individuals) of dwarf corydoras, and a couple otos?

Neither of the options are good. Maybe you can have some shrimp instead? How about a few african dwarf frogs? A betta would really like that tank too.

id say no for those choices but a shoal of neon tetras would be fine

I think theres a clear consensus among the MFK members and pretty much the whole internet that 8 gallons is too small for a single ram.

This is your tank, money, and decision. However it is highly recommended to not get a ram for an 8 gallon tank.

Also when opening up a thread asking for advice/opinions, have an open mind.

I am NOT A 5 YR OLD i am a adult. And i have had a male ram before in a 6 gal and he did fine.

This whole thread is a waste. This 16 yr old uneducated "adult" isn't going to listen to our advice. The fish are going to be mistreated and live in an unhealthy environment. I know plenty of people who have had fish tanks for years but knew nothing about the fish in their tanks and were very misinformed.

Besides he hasn't even taken the tank out of the box yet and doesn't even know the dimensions which imo is valuable information.

I doubt he is going to cycle the tank properly and all the fish he puts in it are going to die until he grows up and gets a clue

Loves severums is not stupid, just a little misinformed. I'm sure she knows to cycle her tank before putting fish in it, and from what I know of her, she isn't one to just completely ignore the info she's given, so don't make so many assumptions. And as for the tank dimensions, the dimensions of smaller tanks is often not displayed anywhere, so you have to actually measure the tank to know its dimensions. It isn't like with larger tanks, where you buy the tank already well aware of its dimensions. I never knew the dimensions on my two gallon tank until almost a year after I set it up (and I only measured so I could include that in my "my tank setup" section of my profile).
