OK well here we go i have been into fish tanks for as long as i can remember . I have went thru it all yes i have fell for the lack of knowable of the local pet store and yes had a nice cute pacu in a 10 gallon tank :nilly::nilly:... so to make a long story short i went thru many many tanks and that cute little pacu made it 8 long years and was about 26" before he passed away about a year ago :cry::cry: . So i took a break but never gave up and took the time to read and gain knowable . While looking on cl one day i saw a nice tank so the :screwy: side of me came out again and i bought it :headbang2:headbang2 and the tank is 8'6" long 30"high and 24" front to back:drool::drool:. The tank i was told was custom made and it was used for saltwater so after some MAJOR cleaning sanding and buffing i have one spotless tank :naughty::naughty:...

So after what i went thru in the past with my pacu i am going to do this the right way this time around like i said i have spent alot of time reading so now its time to ask questions..
So please remember i am in noooooo way a professional at this but i am willing to listen and learn ...
I have a somewhat idea on the setup of the tank but none that i can explain to my self why would that the best way to do it my main problem is the filtration (sump)/wet dry ... I am a huge fan of OVERKILL i would have way toooo much than fall short .
The tank has two over flows each has 1 11/2 & 1" hole in the bottom there are no fittings on them so they are just holes in the tank that i measured with a tape measure so i could be wrong ... I still have to figure what fittings i will need to hook up the tank to pvc pipe oooo ya i am a plumber bytrade...

Ok so as you can see in the pic of the sump i have many different sections
first i have the in i am planning to use two filter socks the second will be the filter pad drip plate and scrubbies the third is the moving bed section i plan to use k1 media in this section forth is my lucky bamboo or some sort of plant life to help absorb Nitrate and last would be the section with the heaters and the return pumps ...
Now for the questions do i have it in the right order and the right baffles for water to flow and is there any thing you would change and if so why and also how large should each section be ...

move heaters to where they will be submerged, like under the wet dry or in the moving bed

thank you the heaters will be 100% submerged i couldn't figure out a way to draw in in my state of the art 1d drawing ... lol they are supposed to be laying down in the pic ... thanks .

some more key info the sump will be made out of 3/8 acrylic (i am getting a gr8 deal on some ) and the stock for the tank will be just about anything i can get out of the lakes during my spring / summer / fall fishing ... yes i fish just about every weekend ...

There has to be some input on this topic out there please Oooo please help I don't want to have to do anything over I would much rather listen and learn ..

I think that having a sump for fresh water is great!! Instead of bamboo I would seriously look into an algae turf scrubber, especially if you are going to have big fish in there. Good luck!

Sump is the best way but the only thing I have to make sure I have the compartments in the right order and then I need to size the pumps

Not sure what a moving bed is, but based on that setup, water will pool there until it reaches the same level as the bamboo, and then the new water will just flow into the bamboo. The bottom on the floating bed will most likely be pretty stagnant.
