thanks dupe she's nice bro ,i called rapps because he had a photo of a female like yours on his site. i asked if he had one like that but he told me that was breeding colors only. do you have a male ornatus in there or do you think she's responding to another male in your tank? anyways i like those ,right now dan ye is trying to help me find one.... your female is really nice again, later

Could it be her 'posturing up' colors? My Festae brightens up more than usual when she's flaring up at another cichlid and feeling scrappy. Anyway, she is beautiful. I can't wait until mine grow up some more and here's to hoping one of my two is a female.

Beautiful fish indeed James!
Thanks for the heads of your post.

I believe the other contributor misunderstood me when referring to female's coloration.
As I described to him, that coloration is not exclusive to breeding ornatus, but rather is displayed when they are feeling feisty, courting, etc.

Basically it's more like a warning pattern to other fish. In the fishes' world of nonverbal communication, this would be the equivalent of her saying "back off" or "don't even tempt me".

^^That's what I was thinking....since they're so similar to Festae.

Wow!! She is gorgeous :) Does the male Ornatum look like the male Festae also? With the hump on his head?

Im not sure y her color changed because their was a 10" male in the tank with her at the time . But i do hope they were responding to each other that would be nice.
Thanks for all the complements everyone.
