It's a lot easier to tell once they start to colour more but in my experience the males get the rusty orange spangles on the dorsal and anal fins and the vertical stripe stays on females and disappears on the males

Not sure what kinda wood. These generally imported from SEA countries mostly from Thailand if I'm not mistaken.

The dangling roots are from a near by stream. They were dried and in the water so thought I'd use them. Again not sure of their ID.

Looking good, I like the dimmer lighting as opposed to the previous pics. Also, the second to last pic is a great example of a young male as you can clearly make out the "freckling" in his dorsal and caudal fins already.

Ohh sweet... Thank you much for the pointer... That makes life much easier for me.
As of now the 12nos are in there. So until they reach to about 4" they should be fine. Then will ween out the rest and keep the alpha and 3-4 mistress for him
