When medicating monster fish for internal parasites, its better to soak there food in meds a few hours and feed, then placing meds directly in the tank...

If you have scaleless fish make sure to only use half the recommended dose of meds when treating certain illness' or you could burn your fish...

Hello; Check all the tanks in a fish store before buying from them. If diseases/lot of dead fish are in one or more tanks it may be best not to buy from them. I often ask how they deal with diseased fish or parasites like ick. If they seem to be aware of the issues and have a reasonable plan to prevent the spread to healthy tanks, I consider buying from them. Quarantine tank for sure for up to four weeks???

KISS - keep it simple stupid

When in doubt.. water change! It's not likely to do any harm and may just save your fishes life

Over filter, over filter, over filter

NEVER listen to anyone who tells you they are an "expert and know it all"... Unless it's Oddball.. lol But he won't tell you that.

If your fish are sick, It's 99% likely it's your fault... and your water quality has gone to crap

Medicate as a last resort, don't go dumping chemicals inot your tank haphazardly. You WILL kill fish.

Rule #1-Make sure your fish don't fit in each others mouths. Lol! It's the only way I lose fish for years now, predation.
Seriously though to me fish care is pretty straight forward.

Rule #1 is information. Always research a fish before purchase get to know it's habits, aggression level is it a predator....etc.

Rule #2 source a quality vendor. This can only be done through trial and error, but once you know where to go stick with them.
It builds a relationship and they're much more likely to look out for you if your a known loyal customer.

Rule #3 water quality. Don't ever skimp on water changes and monitoring your water quality.

Rule #4 Quarantine. Always quarantine your new arrivals, even from a good vendor there's always a chance you may get a sick or
overly aggressive specimen.

Rule #5 Always have a holding tank in case there's a community breakdown. Sometimes the death of fish leads to anarchy in the
fish reestablishing a pecking order.

Rule #6 Always make sure there's plenty of cover for fish incase your not home when anarchy breaks out. If I can't find fish the
same size I size my decor accordingly. Make sure there's a decor piece that the smaller fish can retreat to, but that the bigger
fish can't follow.

Rule #7 always seek out help hear when it comes to quality filters. These people are in the know as they've had real experience
with the equipment and usually long term. Price is definitely not always a sign of quality when buying filters.

And that's about it as far as the rules I've followed. It's working for me so far, I've got an Armatus that's over 2 years old and has
survived breaking my glass tops with no ill effect, had his dorsal bitten totally off by my Curupira and it grew back in a month and he's
still kicking. While many have had them die suddenly or killed themselves running into glass walls. Don't know if I'm lucky or if I'm doing
something right. I prefer to think the latter.

make sure your family knows what to expect from the tank, i set up my 75 next to a tv my brother is glued to in order to play xbox. on 3 occasions i've come down to find the filters unplugged for who knows how long because he found the trickle of water annoying, fortunately a little quarrel and a few layers of gauze layers convinced him to stop his assassination attempts

Sounds like your Armatus is healthy and going strong :) how big is he now? did you get him as a juvenile?

Yeah got him around 3 inches from Shark Aquarium and he's about 15 inches now. I feed him sparingly about every 2-3 days shrimp stuffed with Massivore. He is a trip and scary to work around when I'm doing tank maintenance. If he see's me coming he starts freaking out biting the tank and on occasion has gotten crazy enough to crash into the glass top, heck he jumps at my hand on a regular when I'm trying to feed my cichlids. Been keeping his teeth as they shed too, totally cool seeing the size differences in them as he's grown.

Great information! Keep it coming. Every fish will have different needs. Not all fish are cut out for a community tank.
