Some confusion is going on in here, imho.

I have a son that was bitten, lightly, by a Neapolitan, who just wanted to correct my son.

He was six and woke the dog with a shout in its ear.

Took 90 stitches in the face, my boy.

Never crossed my mind to have that dog killed. It went to a friends house the next day.( and i still miss her )

A completely different thing is to know you have a chance of saving your kids finger, because they can be re- attached if quickly acted upon.

And in this situation i would not hesitate. And i would not hesitate even if the fault was my kids ( would deal with that later ).

To put a persons value on a par with a dogs, even a beloved one, is higly worrisome and demonstrative if how society is nowadays.

Just my 2 cents.

got to agree 100% ,,THE OWNER did the right thing, what if it was somebody elses kid .... wanna deal with that one....????

Ben, give it some slack, please.

No one who is not a parent has the least idea, absolutely, what this is about.:)

No. Absolutely wrong. If my dog bit me and my father tried to hurt her I'd knock him down. You can believe me..

Hello; How did you determine this? Also there seems to be something telling in that you feel it is, even in a smallest way, acceptable for a "family member" to bite off the finger of another family member.

Sorry. I meant to post "quite sure" not "sure". What I meant is that a dog doesn't bite for no reason.
And no that isn't acceptable. But it's also not acceptable to just kill the dog like it was a freaking stray.

You would beat your father.

Enough said, for me, Ben.

I will take that as sign of a rebellious youth, though if a son of mine wrote what you just did i would consider that i had failed misearbly as a parent.

Life will show you it is not as you put it, my friend.

I agree with the animal rights people ...BUT an AGGRESSIVE DOG.. cant be reasoned with ..and could kill someone if provoked... this being said the kid might have done something aggressive .. BUT still CANT take A CHANCE ON THE dog hurting someone again... its got to be put down:(

In the article it says the dog was in a cage and the boy put his hand in to pet the dog and it was an accident. Doesn't really say if the dog was an aggressive dog.

That was maybe a bit of an overreaction on my part. No I wouldn't beat him but I wouldn't speak a word with him anymore.
I'm quite sure it won't.

hello; If biting a finger off is not an aggressive act, then please explain what it would take to qualify as an aggressive act?

It said a Malumite-wolf mix. IMO that dog would probably have a shorter temper than a normal dog and could be one of the reasons for its Aggressive behavior even if it was provoked. But when provoked, most dogs just bite. But chewing off and swallowing? That seems a bit much and I blame it on the wolf mix. I think I would go after the finger. At the time you never know if it can be reattached.

+1. When I was young and my dad would tell me if my snake was to bit me I would look at him like he was crazy. Till I realized that him killing the snake or even just pulling it off could be the difference in life and death.
