Its doable,but a pictus grows about 4 inches,so the JDs may end up trying to eat it down the road.Do you already have the 55 gallon or is a tank you are thinking getting one to put the JDs in?
It takes a long time for a male JD to even get pass the 8 inch mark though,if he is even upgrading to a larger tank down the road,the 55 gallon would work for now.
so 10 inch male jack is to big for 55 i thought that would be plenty of room but what would pictus catfish be fine with a pair of Jacks or can you reccomend another type that would work better
Well the width of the 55 gallon is 12 inches,it could stress him out then,if you plan on upgrading to a much bigger tank in 2 years,then yes the 55 gallon would work as a temporary grow out tank.
