A few more cichlid questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am confused though on how it would stress him out if he has turn around room of 2 inches

To be honest the JD males can grow 12 inches, but yes the average of a male JD is 10 inches. To be honest, just give it a shot, see what happens down the road that is all.Majority of the people would rather have 1000 gallon tank, than have them a tank that is 100 gallons or less with a couple of cichlids.

okay then thinks for the advice will give it a shot with 3 pictus catfish and hopefully stays at 10 inches max and if gets bigger will have to upgrade if not will probably just keep them in 55 gallon

My brother has this one catfish, but its not a pictus though, well try at least 2,cause I never owned a pictus catfish with cichlids before, only in a community set up with more than 2.You can always try a pleco that only grows 5 inches, those are l66 or called king tiger pleco.

what type is it your brother has or do you know and does it work with cichlids

I forgot what kind his catfish was,but its getting beat up pretty bad by the Texas Cichlid my brother has in his 55 gallon with 3 Oscars. When the Texas wasn't in there, the Oscars didn't seem to really care about this certain catfish at all.I know his catfish is capable of being with the Oscars, but not the Texas.

Aren't jacks less agressive than texas cichlids anyway i am thinking the pictus will probably be okay with the jacks but hopefully even when mated they will not bother the cats to much

yeah they are suppose to be actually.I have 6 in half inch JD and a 3 in half inch Texas, also it depends on which texas we are talking about too,I keep on reading the red texas is more aggressive than a normal texas. My texas defends his own territory with my female Salvini which is a cave,so say if the pictus catfish goes into their territory they sleep in,ect. The Texas will mess that pictus catfish up big time.As for my JD,he actually has control of 2 territories in the tank set up.One by the driftwood piece and inside the pot.He will attack any of the cichlids, except the Oscar in his territory. This will give you a idea, how a JD usually will be at times,of taking 1 or 2 spots for territory.
