Just wondering though, how does the lens compare to the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8?

I've never shot with the 50mm, which I hear is a great portrait lens. Having said that, both the Canon and the Nikon version of this lens are known as being the best in the biz for sharpness. But to give a fair opinion, I'd have to shoot with the 50mm first.
