Thanks! :D The fish in question is a North Thailand Tiger Datnoide with ihs tank mate the Red Tail Golden Arowana. I shoot with a Nikon D300. :)

that second one is probably the coolest picture I have ever seen! wat settings are u using and how far is ur flash from the fish?

Settings are something like:

aperture f14 for these, I think
ISO 200
Shutter speed around 1/160th if I remember correctly.

Flash is about 3 inches above their heads in this set. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed that pic. It's not something you see everyday, lol.
 
Im not sure if i believe those are the settings your using. Unless you have a lense with an image stabilizer. Cuz I shoot mine on F16 1/320 iso 100 with the flash about a foot off of them and sometimes still get over exposure. Is ur background black or is that just drowned out in focus?
 
Why would I need an image stabilizing feature?

And did you consider I might be powering down my flashes? ;) Everything is in full manual mode.

There is no background on the tank. The way I set up my lighting, the proximity of the camera to the tank and another factor (trade secret :naughty:) allows me to get this effect in my pictures.
