A Game Of Thrones

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well I can finally read this thread again lol. I never watched Game of Thrones untill about 6 weeks ago when I started buying the dvd sets and watching 3-4 episodes per night. Watched them all and then bought the final season 8 off On Demand a few days ago and watched the final episode last night. Personally I thought it was one of the best series I have ever seen and would only place one other series ahead of it (Breaking Bad). Some people said they didn't like the ending, or that it was rushed and the Knight king's death was too quick. I don't agree. The battle episode (the long night) was 115mins of battle with the dead, the death of the knight king was done well IMO. I think a long drawn out sword fight between the Knight King and someone else would have made the Knight King seem too human/alive. In actuality since the Knight King created all the dead soliders then the entire 115min battle was more or less battling the Knight King himself, not just the last minute when Arya killed him.

I thoroughly enjoyed Game of Thrones. I was not sure how they would end it or who would be king/queen, but I think they ended it really well and don't really think ending it any other way would have been as satisfying for my tastes. I'm also glad they didn't kill Bronn, I figured he was gonna get killed a couple different times but didn't. I always liked that guy he was hilarious :)

im fine with how some of it ends, but it's the delivery that they failed on. there was a lot of the lack of build up while abandoning seasons of character development and arcs altogether to quickly tie up loose ends. the result is we get characters acting completely out of character and making zero sense.

for example, arya just abandoning her revenge. cersei had been at the top of her list since season 1, she travels all the way down with the hound, makes it to the doorsteps, only to abandon her quest. and the mountain just suddenly decides to abandon her queen, out of the blue. why?? there was no explanation for that. why have him do that when you can just have the two brothers start fighting? why did the hound just let cersei walk by? the only girl he loves, arya, wants to kill cersei, why not just cut her head off, for arya? lol. why did grey worm or the unsullied not kill jon immediately when they learned jon killed dany? why keep him prisoner? why listen to the other houses to spare jon? why did anyone, when grey worm left, just not say, "hey jon, they gone now, you can be king." the list goes on but you get the points im making

it was sloppy and for me personally, kind of a slap in the face for being a loyal fan all these years. i've watched everything up to season 7 four times. there isn't much i don't know about the show and that's what sucks for me.

my biggest issue with the night king is this,....the whole backbone of the show is the threat beyond the wall. from episode one, the very first scene it was the threat beyond the wall. everyone plays the game of thrones while this evil army is coming for everyone. they don't explain what the walkers want, why the night king wants the three eyed raven, the three eye is the only thing the night king seems to fear or see as a threat.....for what?? bran didn't do anything. bran could've been a 90 year old man in a wheelchair for all it mattered. night king died going after someone who didn't appear to be any more threatening to him than a freaking baby or something

they phoned it in hard this last season and it showed. 3 of my favorite current shows came to an end....into the badlands, gotham and game of thrones. Game of thrones had the worst last season. none of any of my other favorite shows embody the phrase "the bigger they are, the harder they fall" than game of thrones and they fell HARD.

Im not sure thats entirely true as bran can see both past and future??? just that the future depends on the paths people take which could lead to different outcomes so he cant be entirely sure how its shaped till that moment happens...

Also, being the three eyed raven im not sure hes supposed to influence any outcomes as much as be a keeper of stories and be able to predict certain outcomes...

Then again, i’ve not read the books so not sure if there was any side stories hinting bran had more influence than was shown on TV???

Actually Bran is a greenseer, so yes he most likely can see into the future, which the books also seem to imply according to a pretty convincing fan video I just watched. This same video goes on to theorize it's much deeper, with Raven Blood, Bran's teacher, actually setting things up for Bran -- by among other things, making him climb the tower at that particular time, then fall so he would be crippled and not go to King's Landing to be a knight as he had previously hoped to do.

Agreed with your main points. As to why Night King went after Bran/Winterfell, if the theories I'm following are correct (which I'm not 100% sure they are), there are 2 likely reasons: 1) to kill Bran so that he could stop influencing events (and because he was the source of stories); and 2) to get Gilly's baby, which was 'stolen' from him and supposed to be his 100th Night Walker.

that's why i think bran is the true villain. he sees all, knows all, and tells everyone that they are exactly where they needed to be and do what they needed to do when they did it, and that is why they are where they are at presently.

he knew what jon would do, sacrifice everything for the people, unite the north, win the long night, kill dany and then he knew tyrion would elect him as king. otherwise, why tell jon about his true lineage? he knew jon didn't want the throne. but he told him, knowing the info would spread and cause chaos and everything went according to his game....the long game.....and bran won. he was no longer bran when he became the 3 eyed raven, but he became bran when they offered him the throne, lol. chaos is not a ladder, like little finger said. chaos is a wheelchair. everyone climbs the ladder to get to the top while the wheelchair waits until everyone dies

islandguy, the theories you speak of may be true, but that's my problem, there is no explaining it on the show. no hint, it's all fan theory that makes sense kind of. but is any of that canon?

Much agreed -- and actually the people making those theories were also kind of saying Bran was the real villain. But like you and for the same reasons I'm not 100% sure of anything as related to the TV series -- hope to have a different experience when I read the books.

What really tells you the show fell hard is that the actors hated the final season haha.

I will never get over how terrible the conclusion with the dead and NK ended. Despite all the character arcs that were destroyed and huge plot lines that were completely abandoned, the death of the Knight King and the entire fight with the dead highlights how rushed the season was.

Yep.....why did the dothraki just blindly charge the walkers? Why didn't dany just fly over and start blasting the dead army instead of sending the dothraki? Why didn't the night king just fly over and start blasting the living army?? Lol, lazy writing

Only that the lot still remains in our imagination and as far as the TV series are concerned, Bran mumbled his way up by rolling his eyes for 8 seasons...It's only a guess what it all means...If they intended for us to think Bran set it all up, then the delivery on that was poor...

I liked the series because of the mysteries, prophecies.....which suggested a surprise factor of some sort in the end. I expected an unexpected twist..This never came. It turned into a midieval predictable soap opera.

For example, so many theories and waiting to get to know John's parents only for him to throw tantrums like a kid "I don't want it..I don't want it"...etc..

The theory about the 3 heads of the dragon from Rhaegar Targaryan only materialized into 2 Targaryans....What happened to the 3rd one? If the TV series followed the prophecy, it should have followed through all the way. Same about Cersei...I think the producers forgot what they read in the books halfway through making the series.....

Also, who are the white walkers, how did the Night King became..

I feel exactly like SumoNinja described above....

The show is still good but considering how famous and internationally followed it was, they could have made history by delivering a real twist in the manner of "Unusual Suspects" for example....

I will only read the books if they get finished.....Now I am off to watch " Black pearl". Great pirate show...

Wow! Good points guys. I really fall right in between you two. I felt it was rushed and poorly executed at the end but I love that damn show! And not unlike my wife that love blinds me to the bad.....or at least allows for forgiveness.

On to another HBO show......Westworld. How in the hell are they having another season? If you watched it and saw the end explain that to me? If you didnt I dont want to spoil anything....well worse then what ive already said.

Black pearl? You mean sails? And if so yes I agree. And if you know that part of history pretty accurate also.

They explained the knight king in season 6 I think?
There are or were 3 Targaryans just as there were 3 dragons. Dany, her brother, and Jon. Like the first two dragons Dany and her brother are dead and Jon wonders off like Drogon.
