In books robbs wife is actually from a lesser family then the freys so he thinks it would be rude to bring her along which in show it kind of was. As far as I know she plays no further significant role.
Not to spoil anything but Jon gets shot in leg with arrow and basically his future role as member of nights watch is a real challenge because of his wounded leg but he fights through it while mance is attacking the wall. Wounded leg makes it all a little more dramatic.
During the wedding too actually little john, big johns son who does not exist in the show threw a table over rob in an effort to protect him. Would have been bad ass to if that happened in show.
In books as well a chapter ends with something along the lines of " then the hound hit her in the back of the head with an axe" referring to arya. This chapter is right after the red wedding and you get no proof she is still alive for about 100 pages. I was in shock, as if the wedding was enough I thought the hound killed arya too
