Oh, and as far as finishing, may I make a suggestion? Zinnser Bullseye Amber Shellac! I use it to repair fountain pens (it is the easiest available shellac that will work) when they need to have parts sealed that might need to be opened later. I need a drop to 2 to fix a pen, so, while the quart sized container was sitting on my dresser, I saw an opprotunity. It looks great on wood! Just make sure not to put it on anything that will get up to about 150 degrees F because that is when it softens. It really does look great.
