A new tank build

Oh, and as far as finishing, may I make a suggestion? Zinnser Bullseye Amber Shellac! I use it to repair fountain pens (it is the easiest available shellac that will work) when they need to have parts sealed that might need to be opened later. I need a drop to 2 to fix a pen, so, while the quart sized container was sitting on my dresser, I saw an opprotunity. It looks great on wood! Just make sure not to put it on anything that will get up to about 150 degrees F because that is when it softens. It really does look great.

Fun project! My students use large molds to build car bodies and boat hulls using fiberglass and kevlar. Your tips about application are right on.

I have a can of varnish here I was planning to use for finishing the outside but I was thinking I would like something thicker I may take your suggesion and use a shellac instead.

Nice job on the door.

I finished the other two cabinet doors this morning. The first one took me close to four hours, lol. The other two about an hour a piece.

Also I finished painting the inside of the light canopy. I don't have very much epoxy left so I first coated it with some thinned out fibreglass resin to seal the wood then painted three coats with some gloss white tremclad I had here.

awesome tank! would love to be able to build my own. dont trust myself though to do this without leaks and have to basically restart the whole thing lol

hmmmm just a thought... you sure the base would stand the gallons of water once in the tank?... also, shouldnt the glass be glued on the inside with the wood support on the outside so that the weight of the water will help it on?... just askin bro and not puttin you down...
