A personable cichlid for my 75 gallon tank.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dang, I was looking for something as a source of extra money so I could afford to upgrade to a 180 in a few years. Maybe I'll get something like a 20 in a few months and try breeding in a separate tank.

Be careful with the "breeding to make money" thing. A lot of people think they can make tons of money, but unless you have a commercial license to sell them, you aren't likely to get much. Some people use Craigslist and that can be successful for a few months, but after that you will have flooded the market and very few will buy. Mom and pop type stores can't legally pay you cash for your fish without a license, but will often offer you store credit (which is great if they sell big tanks). Wholesalers won't even discuss buying large quantities of fish unless they know you have a license. The good news is that you can buy a year long license for about $50-100. But unless you are selling lots of fish that sell quickly or demand a high price, you will be lucky if you make that back in a year.

Cons breed so often you'll never be able to get rid of all the fry. You need something to feed them to, or vac the eggs before they hatch

Cons breed so fast you can't give them away. There was a post for 40 0.5" convict fry on Aquabid recently starting at $1 bid with free shoppig an no reserve and no one bid on it!! LOL

Yes or no?

1 green severum
1 green terror
6 giant danios (dither)
1 striped raphael catfish
1 sailfin pleco (2 years)
1 ornate pimelodus

think this is really dependent on the individual cichlids, specifically the green terror.

The danios will die and the Gt may bully the sev but it may work

Ever heard of a pantano cichlid (pearsii), my LFS has one about 4.5" and it's hard to resist. Would it kill the danios if it was the only cichlid I got?
