I love them. They take the time to explain the mechanisms by which their products work to the community, thus allowing community members to make informed decisions based on facts.

Case in point:
I was searching for more information about purigen and came across this thread: http://www.seachem.com/support/forums/showthread.php?t=2783
I've seen them post explanations here as well (can't remember what for.)

note: I don't work for seachem.

I don't work for seachem either but I love their products to death. As of today I use the following seachem products

Prime (A must have)
Purigen
Matrix bio media
Matrix carbon
Seagel
Nitrite/Nitrate test kit
Ammonia test kit
fluorite

I think that is about it. They all rock!
(I am a bit of a seachem whore)

It's kind of funny but I can't even think about seachem without thinking about you. I swear you should work for them. :)

I am sort of a seachem whore myself though, I use several of their products and I've never been dissapointed by any of them. I've also called them before and they were very helpful.

 Thanks bro :headbang2

Oh and I forgot I have their cupramine and paraguard on hand

The paraguard works :) never had to use the cupramine.

i use de-nitrate, on canister at 15 GPH, the read of nitrate is less than 10 ppm (usually was 80+)

Strange…

I think Seachem makes great products… but…

I find Seachem frequently makes exaggerated claims about their products…

I feel the link above is an example of them exaggerating…

In short:
If the size of the bacterial colony is limited by the amount of available food (which is the case in the vast majority of our aquariums), then removing a portion of that food source will in deed reduce the amount of bacteria…

While I do believe that Seachem makes some quality products that when used wisely can be beneficial to hobbyists… I also feel their staff supplies off target information which gives exaggerated confidence in products thus boosting their sales.

I know many hobbyists who spend money on many medias and additives whose water is no better off than those of us who simply do regular water changes and clean our filters regularly…

In Seachem’s defense… Their competitors do the same thing, as do the filter manufacturers, aquarium manufacturers, etc… It’s a liars market so they have to lie to keep up… Which is very sad in my eyes… which is one of the reasons I make 10 page threads trying to share the truth about things like Bio Media ;)

I think I linked the wrong thread. Anyway, the seachem employee's answer was correct in that purigen wouldn't have an effect on the function of your biological filtration. It would reduce its waste load, yes, and the population would decrease, yes. Ammonia and nitrite would always continue to be kept in check, however, as long as you didn't remove all the purigen suddenly.

Follow the link provided above to see my full argument I made in response to the Seachem Rep...

But the Seachem Rep states “Purigen will not have an effect on the bacteria in your tank” ...

Purigen will reduce the ammonia available to the Bacteria...

Available food is the typical limiting factor in the size of our bacterial colonies...

Therefore using Purigen will reduce the quantity of bacteria in the system...

Reducing quantity is an effect... Reducing the size of the colony means it is
killing off a portion... if killing isn't an effect I don't know what is...

Using Purigen will not kill all of the bacteria, but will kill a portion...

The Seachem Rep suggests that it is inevitable that your fish will produce more ammonia than your bacteria can consume... which is a complete lie...
