A word about seachem

Matrix is one of the cheapest ceramic/cintered glass biomedias available. The surface area claim seems exaggerated, but nonetheless it is the cheapest stuff I've seen.

Are Seachem's ammonia/nitrite/nitrate tests easier to read than API's?
IMO yes they are. They also provide a sample of water to test so you know its telling you the correct amount.

And yes Matrix while possibly being exaggerated is still one of the cheapest bio media's available.

I sometimes feel like a Seachem shill myself; for example, I have always had good results with their planted tank products

I haven't had good results with Purigen; seems like whenever I try it, the impact on my tanks is detrimental . . . but maybe that's just me

In what way did you see it as being detrimental ?

I just added purigen to my tank a few hours ago, it's already starting to look way better. It cleared through most of my tannins in just a couple hours.
I used approx. 150ml in my canister filter, tank is 75.

Its great for removing tannin's :headbang2 Also polishing water to a level that would take a diatom filter to really beat.

I'm a Seachem junkie myself, no I don't work for Seachem . However I am available..:naughty: Won't use any competing products.....

I prefilter my tap water in a stock tank with Purigen and Matrix Carbon. Also use their PH buffer Neutral regulator on the liquid rock they call water here.

Prime is the only dechorlinator used.

All my canister filters are filled with Matrix Bio Media and the sumps have the Pond Matrix mixed in with the bio balls...

Their customer service is excellent.....I highly recommend all their products.:headbang2

Well, it's the morning, and the tank looks close to perfect.
I'm going to use it in some of my other tanks.

I've used it on my smaller planted tanks and seen outbreaks of cyanobacteria . . . I don't know why the two things would be connected (?), but after it happened twice I stopped trying . . . probably "user-error" on my part

I also didn't see any water-polishing when I tried it on my larger tanks; my water is very clear anyway, but I thought maybe Purigen would take it to another level, and I really didn't see any appreciable difference

I'm going to try one more time, on my 15G planted, which has some tannins in it . . . I'll post again once I reach a conclusion on the result :)

after 24hrs the Purigen has made a notable difference on my 15G tank; the tannin discoloration is gone, and the water is clearer with fewer floating particles . . . it doesn't look better than my 30G or 90G planted tanks, but at least now it looks as good

I'm running 100L of Purigen ("the Bag") in an old Penguin100 HOB filter . . . no bio-wheel, just some filter foam and the Purigen. there is also an Eheim Liberty100 on the tank

stupidly, I did not take a "before" pic, but here is how the tank looks currently . . .
