That is the classic result of nitrate poisoning. Fish can't grow in high nitrates. All of their energy is put toward their immune systems and bio-filtering organs (liver, pancreas, etc.).

When a fish goes from nasty water to clean water, their cells and systems suffer osmotic shock. The result is nearly always death. A member here did a 10% wc on a friends tank and half of the fish died within an hour.

Either that or it's a couple of Petsmarts Tinfoil Barbs. lol

Hey! Petsmart has BIG healthy tinfoil barbs!!! For reals >_>

Poor migit fish. I'm not gonna lie though, they're alot cuter than the big ones lol.

in the future when rescueing neglected fish do a series of tiny w/c's to slowly change the waste levels in the water and you might have better results.I get a lot of calls from people that have let their tanks go to hell and want it clean now, it is always a pain to convince people that "right now"is not a time frame i can work with in their case but as a result we've brought back some real swamps into nice healthy tanks

Wow...how sad:( I would think even without water changes, if she fed them properly, they should've been bigger than 5" in a 55g over 6 years.

I abuse my fish all the time. When they splash me I say " Why you @%^^@!" Or when I'm trying to catch them its "Come here you little @@$%%^#!"
