idk if it makes the noise without the impeller in i didnt try it but if it is the sand im gonna replace it with gravel -___- the sand is so nice i hate to get rid of it but if i gotta do it i gotta do it lol

I've had sand get into my impellers and it did make the grinding noise. But once rinsed out the noise stopped. If your intake isn't too low you should be fine with the sand.

Nutley is actually the next town over from me lol i hope i get it working tho it still works just the noise is driving me crazy but seriously man thanks a lot

CLDarnell...MFK at its best...very nice of you to offer this

Thanks man. Obolsky has been a decent guy since joining...and he's been fighting this filter the whole time lol. I would hate to see a fellow fish keeper lose a tankful of fish and knowing I didn't help when I could!

Well, we have a back up plan if it doesn't work. You can PM me here...it will go to email which is linked to my Blackberry. We'll worry about getting your filter to me later.

Good luck!

thanks man i really appreciate u helping me and everyone else who helped but i would take a video to hear how bad the grinding is but my crackberry screens cracked :( i might go take a video with my iTouch and see if i can get it to upload onto my Macbook

Wow, that is loud! It sounds like the impeller is jumping up and down inside the housing...or possibly the impeller blades have are free spinning on the shaft and chattering.

My Magnum 350 canister sounded just like that. A new impeller fixed it right up. Not sure why you would have failure that fast though...your intake is quite a bit above the sand. Maybe your fish are spitting sand into the intake :)

Oh yeah i know that sound. Do you use that fine aquarium sand? I made that mistake and that EXACT same thing happened to mine. Sponges don't help with that stuff. Mine would quiet down after about 15 minutes at first but now it wont stop. There is no way to fix it without a motor and impeller replacement which will cost almost as much as a new one. Mine was in my room an I also have a W/D and an Fx5 so I just put it on my feeder tank in my basement.

Basically there's no point in continuing to take it apart, its not going to help. Trust me, I had this same problem and it wont get better. Sorry man i wish I had better news for you.:( I'm about to just retire the thing altogether and wait for my LFS to have a sale on them again, cause they're great but fine sand is murder on them.

yeah idk what ima do its 7:29 and im really pisssed off just because i heard it grinding but now none of my fish are eating they ate maybe 2 times between yesterday and today so there acting really really weird
