Not sure where this belongs but whats the best way to acclimate a puffer the key thing is that the LFS there comeing from is keeping a freshwater puffers in brackish conditions so should i try and figure out exactly how much salt is in the tank or could i acclimate them slowly enough and have them survive

1st of all, you need to bring your hydrometer into the LFS & see exactly what SG they are keeping it at. Many stores claim to have BW tank, when they are only lightly "salted" with a few tsps pf aquarium salt.

If indeed, it is BW (>1.002), then you need to do the same drip acclimation you would do with any other fish, being sure you don't lower the SG of the bucket more than .002/hour.

just called and they said there being kept at 1.010 seems kinda high

That's why I suggested taking your own hydrometer for testing. These are the red eyes you were talking about in another thread? Go to my forum & print out the profile for that fish. Every fish they sell will die at that SG.

yeah thats them i'e tried telling them there freshwater but they insist that all puffers need salt

So are you saying there all going to die eventually or are doomed and can't be acclimated to freshwater

Yeah, I have another LFS that insists that all "fw" puffers are indeed bw. I should take some pictures of my Silus that's been (surprisingly) surviving in complete fw!

Do the employees seem like they will listen, or are they know-it-alls?

one guy who looks kind of like a hippie seems to care and take advice but hes just a worker and doesn't seem to have much control over how the fish are kept plus he thinks there BW i bet if i showed him info on the net or had him look them up he would see that there freshwater and try to change the water the rest are pretty smart except when it comes to puffers nobody seems like a know it all atleast from what i've seen

hope so there was alot lees of them when i bought mine was about 12 in there week later when i bought mine there was 5-6
