acclimating puffers ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah thats what i was thinking they are only $15 so mabye people are buying them but i'm sure most would end up dead that way to :( when i bought mine all the guy who bagged it up said was yu know there brackish they were about to close so i just said yeah but i did get into a little confersation with the hippie guy who seems liked he cared hope he looks them up even got a chance to mentioned this site :)

I would actually send them to TPF. Bring them that profile. They will die at that SG--needs to be acclimated to FW.

yeah the puffer forum would be the best for this situation we'll i'm going up ther today to try and trade in my dead puffer they said if my water checks out then they will replace it my water is great except for the salt level that may be a bit off which may make them not give me one

Also i've never set up a drip system before anybody have an article on them or anything

What i did was just the normal floating the bag thing waited 10 mins then added a tiny bit of tank water to the bag ( around 1/8th cup or less) waited 15 mins then repeted till the bag got pretty full then i emptyed half out and repeted added water to the bag about 12-14 times lost count hole process took me about 2 and 1/2 hours which i thought was long enough but may not have been if my salt level was pretty off it lived for about 2 days and nights then third morening it was gone it did swim around some but most of the time it layed on the bottom i'm pretty sure i didn't acclimate it slow enough

Start a syphon with an airhose from the tank into a bucket with the fish & water from the bag (you may have to tilt the bucket if there isn't enough water to cover the puffer). Tie a knot in the hose, until it only drips about 1 drop/second. Keep checking the SG in the bucket, until it is close to the SG in the tank.

It seems like a lot of the LFS do not know much about Puffers. When I got my Fahaka they were feeding him a steady diet of feeder fish and feeder fish only. There is also a bunch of misleading information on the Web about Puffers. I looked all over before finding this forum. I kept getting mixed information on BW versus FW for my Fahaka. By the way he is doing fantastic thanks to much advice from this site.

thats kinda what i thought it was okay thanks

We'll wen't to the LFS the gravity of my water was off a little was only like 1.004-1.005 but i did get credit for one i'm gonna have to bring my salt level up fast some how they only had 3 left now

I once more tried to tell them there fresh but they insisted they are brackish i told them to look into Fangs puffer or even red eye puffers at **************.com and they said they would look into it

No offense, but are you talking about the idiots at Todd's that told people to put salt in with their rays but make you bring in water to do a water sample before you can buy one?

AquaMart has some interesting puffers that are actually being kept in fresh like they're supposed to, such as a hairy and a pignose.
