acclimating puffers ?

I do not suggest bringing up your SG. Just acclimate the puffers to FW. How did you cycle the tank? At BW?

No offense, but are you talking about the idiots at Todd's that told people to put salt in with their rays but make you bring in water to do a water sample before you can buy one?

AquaMart has some interesting puffers that are actually being kept in fresh like they're supposed to, such as a hairy and a pignose.
Aqua Mart ? never heard of them if they have puffers i'm gonna have to check them out but i'm talking about aqua imports and they have rays in i was really excited to see them there being sold as tea cups they look like to nice retic rays for $75 i think very cool to see them i can't wait any longer for my new tank i'm gonna have to start selling all my stuff :grinno: I really wan't a ray :D

I was in a hurry to get one and didn't think there were going to survive so i brought my salt level up really fast but don't worrie i was able to get some water and Stuff out of the under gravel filter of another brackish tank from the LFS i was hopeing to get it out of the tank with the puffers in it but they said it was a pretty new tank so i got it from a different tank then let my tank sit a few days and tested the water and it looked good so i got one of there puffers

Sorry about all the posts i didn't wan't to make one really long post

So i got another puffer with the store credit they gave me and i'm hopeing it goes better this time To acclimate it I was able to use a drip system which i really like i think i'm gonna use that for all my sensitive fish so i put it in a bucket with the drip system and let it sit for around 4 hours i would of gone longer but the little heater in the bucket wasn't keeping the water wurm enough to i placed it back in a bag and floated it in the tank to let the Temp even out and then added it my salt level should be pretty close or thats what the LFS said they tested it for me as i don't have a new Hydrometer yet

I was doing good but know its just sitting in a corner like the last one did so know i'm worried so i tested the water nitrates are fine around 20-30 PPM No nitrites No amonia But the water is reading very hard I think its because i used Oceanic natural sea salt Mix which has calcium and other stuff in it do you think this is a problem ? i would of gotten Instant Ocean but they were all out would that of made a difference

Also getting it back to fresh water whats the best way to do this i was gonna wait a few days and then start bringing the salt level down or do you think i should start bringing it down now ?

Any help would be very great i love these puffers and can't find them any where else i don't won't to lose it ohh and it appears to be another Fangs puffer

What kind of puffer is this one? If it's another target species, it is dying because you have in BW.

It is another target i'm bringing the salt level down right now its looking better actually but i was woundering how should i bring the salt level down should i do a water change with like a gallon of water and use a drip system to fill it back up or should i just change little bits of water every so often ?

It does seem better though it ate some blood worms today and seems more active after doing a tiny water change and filling the tnk back up with a drip system

He can't handle the osmotic pressure caused by the salt, which is whny as you are diluting it, he is responding better. I'd put the puffer in a bucket & drip-acclimate the puffer to FW & in the meantime, I'd get yourself a bag of Bio-Spira & cycle the tank as FW.

HMMM okay i have Bio Filtration supliment so plus plenty of other freshwater tanks to help cycle it last time i was haveing trouble with getting the temp so i'll try and get the temp to the right spot before adding it to the bucket

Temp is the main thing i'm not sure how i'm going to keep the temp in the buckets right i don't have enough heaters for all them I think i'll put a tiny heater in the bucket with the puffer and then the heater from the tank into a full bucket of water i hope that keeps it wurm enough how cold of temps can puffers handle ?

I wouldn't let it get much lower than 76. I wouldn't use any other product than Bio-Spira or if you have an extra filter on a FW tank, then use that or filter material from one of them.

okay thanks i actually don't have that stuff i'll try to get some thanks

I'll give everyone an update in a few days
