If you can find 42 and a 42 gun it’s better stuff and easier to apply. I have been on the fence about 40 vs solvent seams for a while and still use both. Both have their ups and downs and if either is done correctly the tank should last a lifetime. 1 gallon wil be enough.
Is there a real crazing issue with thin-solvent seams made on thick material?
I believe 1/4" is the thickest sheet I've welded myself. I've built some lamps and decorative things in years past with 1/2" rod.
This is what I'm seeing with MEK, and I think it would be worse on thicker plastic.
I always wonder about entrained stresses, and I weld metal too, so I know what happens then. You sometimes must anneal things to soften them and relieve stresses that would cause cracks.
When solvent welding you start at one end and fill the entire seam. That would be a disaster with metal.
