hahaha hey now, those black skirts are some RARE fish!!!:ROFL:
yeah i like to do that to PetCo and walmart a lot haha... but there are some really good family lfs that know their stuff... others not so much but they can get the fish i want haha
used to have 16 black skirt tetras lol, til they picked on my knifefish, so i gave them the boot for some store credit lol. the walmart near me actually "had" some nice fish, like dwarf puffers, blue lobster, and such, but then the tanks went septic. whole other story.

At the store I work at, we have several people on staff who know what they are talking about in many areas of fishkeeping (as well as other animals the store carries) such as planted tanks, ponds, SW, reef, etc. but we also from time to time have some high school kids who are complete idiots. I was talking to one girl and she was telling me how when the extra employee discount day came around, she wanted the pretty orange discus for her BIIIIG .....30 gallon tank. I asked if she was aware that they are fairly sensitive fish and got (in a very airheaded tone of course) "oh really?"...luckily, she got fired before that day rolled around ;)

my lfs has a whole saltwater section along with an even larger freshwater section. i actually got an associate to get me a price quote on some bigger tanks that they could order for me. and i could actually have a conversation with them about tanks as well. but sometimes a good act of acting stupid can help you learn alot about a place.

I think it's pretty funny when somebody walks into a shop acting like a smartass know-it-all, when in reality they don't know 10% of what they think they know...and then they walk outside and oops somebody keyed their car. I think that's pretty f'in hilarious.

Screw with enough people and somebody's bound to screw with you.

something bad happen to you? acting as a smartass isnt part of it, its about scoping out a lfs. and i dont think that asking a question at a lfs is going to get your car keyed.

Nah, never had a problem. I just think people expect a bit too much of the average LFS/chain store employee. They're mostly part timers, not well paid...if they're not fishkeepers themselves you can't expect them to know everything, and it's kind of pointless to ask.

Not picking at you at all nitro, just talking generalities.

:iagree:with you there. i know many people at my lfs that dont know much at all. one of my friends is the manager there and he knows it too. but they should at least have some training and/or background knowledge to be hired so they can be passionate about their job.

ya know... i dont there are a lot of things you can MAKE people be passionate about at min wage...

one time when i just got into the hobby a was trying to get some gold mystus cats and they employee had no idea what fish it was so she sold it to me for like 3$ a piece when they were supposed to be 6.50 idk thought it was funny then

Hahaha, I just got back from the LFS and "Acted Stupid" when I retunred their fish. I bought some tinfoil barbs that got beat up by my perch and took them out to save them.

The lady asked what I had thatwas beating them up, because a day before I returned an oscar. Then when I told her she was saying its aggressive and the tinfoils are not, and thats my problem. I was saying" oh, really? I didnt know that".

Then she tried to play on that and suggested I buy a big oscar and I jsut told her that it was alright and I dont wanna chance any more fights in my tank.
