acting stupid at lfs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To be honest, most LFS people who do know things will pretend not too when those stuck up hobbiest come in. I know because I worked at one for fun once. They hate you for doing that. Then others would never bother to learn anything when people give them crap for getting something wrong after they took the time to try and learn it.

Give people a break. So someone told you they had something and they were wrong. Name a retail store that doesn't do that. Get over yourself and off the high horse everyone. We all make mistakes.

Working in a fish store: It's a job not a career. As a customer: Most that replied to this thread probably don't know it all. So who are they to judge.

I don't quiz the guy at starbucks on coffee grinds.

at my lfs they had a new guy and i was in there with my dad and there was a tank with a bunch of jewels and like 6 pacus. All the fish but one pacu had pretty nipped off fins. i asked my dad which one he thought was the nipper and the "newb" jumped in and was like those are pacus. They are pretty hard to get a hold of. They get really big and pretty. And fast. I was actually embarassed that he tried to wrongfully tell me that pacus get pretty. And that they were rare.

That's pretty true, as it relates to this thread.

Oh my god. I can't beleive that the local guy making 5.50 an hour at the pet shop doesn't know what I know.

Lol. I agree.

I'm just saying, they should say they don't know if a customer asks a question that they don't know. At my job if a customer asks me a question that I don't know, I just tell them so. I offer to ask someone else who might. It's not that difficult of a thing to do. I only get paid minimum wage, but that doesn't stop me from doing a good job.

I do agree that it is rude to try to make fools of lfs employees. There are many good employees. At that same pet store another guy offered to help me find the fish. He didn't know what a four-lined pim was, but admitted it. He even checked to see if he could find info on one in a book. I've ran into other helpful employees who admitted they didn't really know a lot about what I was asking. I don't think all lfs employees are bad, but I don't like the ones who make up things up on the spot. Maybe I just have bad luck with some of the employees I run into.

If it is a new fish store that Im going to, I do ask Q's about fish that they have but I know about. That just gives me time to read how they B.S or speak the truth.

Then I just go from there:D

Yep, then I head to the nearest drive-thru for a little "Fire in the Hole". Nobody likes a wiseass.

I agree why waste anyones time by showing that you know more.

Poor guy/gal has to deal with annoying people all day no need to be a jerk.

Pet store I go to guy doesn't know to much he had Marine fish incorrectly marked. I helped him with ones I knew and gave him site to figure out what was what.

last time I was there he gave me a 30 long for free after I put it on counter and handed him the money for it. .
Helping someone is one thing but being a time wasting jerk is another.
