Adding a lemon oscar to a 125 with Peacock Cichlid's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So to eleviate some concerns for the Oscar: At 5-6 inches, when the Oscar would be the dominant fish I'd put him in the 125. Keep the 29 to rehome other fish you have to reduce the bioload as needed. You'll fall in love with your Oscar when it matures and it will be easy to decide who stays with him and who goes, it will all be about him/her once you fall in love with his ridiculous antics. Start with the Africans or get rid of them before hand. I'd love to try raising a lemon Oscar but am maxed out on tanks at the moment. With the exeption of the ones they call ruby reds the lemons are my fav color morph (if that's what you call it).

I agree with this. Personally I would just move the Africans to another tank, or sell them, especially if you are wanting the "wet pet" experience from your O.

I might end up doing that I'll have to see what happens, I plan on purchasing the 180 gallon to re-home everyone in the 75 in a few weeks.. (I have a fish hoarding problem). So the 75 gallon will be free soon, just have to convince the wife to let me keep it too :help2:

Alittle off topic, would a 75 gallon do okay against a semi load bearing wall on the 2nd floor? I say semi because while its the outside wall of the house its actually over the porch. Though it does sit next too the actual wall of the building . My 57 gallon saltwater tank is in my office on the 2nd floor against a load bearing wall with no issues (36x18x20?).

I'm not a structural engineer so I hate giving advice on this subject, but the person who wrote the following article is, and he has keept fish, and tanks, for many years. Hope that helps.

A 75 will be fine against an upstairs wall assuming you are putting it perpendicular to the floor joists. I wouldn't put any decent sized aquarium parallel to floor joists.

I agree with the suggestions above regarding the Oscar, give him the 125 and the Africans the 75.
