Adult Savannah Pick Up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've got a female about 2' long now. These guys definitely don't tame down like people seem think, she's completely fine outside of her cage and around people as long as she is free to roam, does not like to be picked up at all but will come and lay across your lap if it's by her own choice. If you go and try to grab her you'll likely get a hiss and a nice tail whip across the wrist. As far as diet goes, mine rarely gets rodents and is on a mostly insect diet but she'll eat pretty much anything I offer her, I doubt you'll have much trouble switching it off rodents.

dont feed him lubbers, they are toxic towards humans, and though i am not sure what they do to lizards i would be cautious untill getting better info

Millipedes are also toxic to humans, but not Savannah Monitors.. I wouldn't worry a whole lot about it, but it's something to look into.

Nice pick up.I'd like to have a sav one day and I try to learn all that I can about them for when that great day comes.I've never kept a monitor before..One interesting thing about savs though is the size that they can reach coupled with the fact that they eat mostly insects....I would love to see a four footer.

I once saw one that was a good four and a half feet, that thing was a beast. And yes I'm sure it wasn't a blackthroat.

LOL,I don't doubt you at all,you seem to really know your stuff.I can't say the same for a lot of the sav owners who post on youtube though.Soo many of them seem to want to brag and show off their savs as they feed them mice.
