one pump vs two. one heater vs two. most efficient brands on both. current flow and placement? a problem i just ran into was the sump. i realized yesterday i dont have quite as much room as i though lengthwise so im toying with the idea of building one out of acrylic. so know the question arises how many gallons or how much area for scrubbies do i need?

373.2 scrubbies for your wetdry. Thats what i would suggest. Or as many as possible of course but around 370 would be the magic number your looking for. If you can get that much with the bio stuff in your overflow you should have a very well filtered tank. Remember a certain flow on bio media works best , useally to fast of flow will make your bio not as efficiant. I say multiple heaters for sure , set 2 at a certian temp then two at a lower temp. That way if two one fails the other two kick on and help. Your also only using them when you need them. If you have the room for two pump sure do it. But that will take up alot of room that you could use.

Hey, don't believe the guys at Ocean Floor... or the other goof-balls at the big box stores...that's right, I live in Phoenix, too. A marine biologist runs About the Reef in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area...check it out...be forewarned...he is a fish nazi! By the way, 600 gals. ...they make swimming pools smaller than that.

well i have 10 feet of area under the stand to play with. problem being that i have a 40" by 18" to the left then after than im limited to 12" wide due to the support posts along that way. however if im not able to build a sump out of acrylic, im thinking of using the largest rubbermaid containers that i can in every open space, raising the up a few inches, drilling a few holes in the bottom of each and running like 4 or 5 strips of 1" tubing to connect each one together. something tells me this be an assanine idea and deffinitely won't look pretty. but i guess as long as it gets the job done. but if i do that i figure i could get all 373.2 scrubbies (how did you get to this number by the way?) pumps heaters skimmers and what not.

well so far i haven't actually bought or done anything via their advice. and i already have the tank stand and canopy in my possesion. bought it months and months back in cali... just ran across a good deal and had to jump on it.

Rubbermaid things would be fine , just keep in mind what ever you do the drain hoses and pumps must all go to one container. So if you had 3 towers of rubbermaid bins they must all sit in one long bin with the pump so I can pump all the water. Otherewise the multiple bins with different pumps will never even out and it will ruin a pump. Hope this makes sense, I got the scrubby number because for each gallon of water it has 231 ci. A scrubby has 370ci. So to cover every cubic inch that's how many scrubbies you would need. :)

yea i figured as long as the scrubbie container(s) is raised about 4 inches higher than the one with equipment id be ok. also. im not to sure if i just havent ran across this idea yet or if theres a reason. im not to sure what to call it, but the pvc run from the bottom of the overflow to the sump. could i branch it off into many tubes over the scrubbies and have holes drilled in it. then run the remaining water into the container with the pumps to rid any back pressure (vs the idea of expecting all of the flow thru the holes and into the scrubbies). or is this even making sense?
