Let's not derail this thread anymore. I'm guilty of that. Let's enjoy this beautiful cat and see it recover completely.
By the way
Hendre
ur thinking of epsom salt for polys. In this case I'm talking about is similar to regular table salt. There's a difference.
No worries it's not too far a derail since we are generally talking about possibly treating a new fish. And I don't mind anyway since it's informative and pertinent to fishkeeping. Derails only really get annoying when it becomes a personal convo. between people and it ranges all over the place IMO.
A full strength saltwater dip?
I will wait and see what happens with this awesome cat
No, kno4te is saying there's more then one kind of salt. There's table salt, aquarium salt and epsom salt. Both table and aquarium salt used for freshwater medicinal purposes are both NaCl. There is some differences between the two though. For instance table salt contains iodine which is a anti caking agent while salt water you buy for medicinal purposes at a LFS for treating freshwater fish has none. As far as I know it makes little to no difference when dealing with freshwater which one you use.
Salt used for Saltwater or Brackish setups are a completely different story and table salt can't be substituted for what you'd have to buy at an LFS. It's composed of many different salts and has trace elements. As far as I know the usual mix includes
NaCl Sodium chloride, MgCl2 Magnesium chloride, Na2SO4 Sodium sulphate,
CaCl2 Calcium chloride, KCl Potassium chloride, NaHCO3 Sodium bicarbonate, KBr Potassium bromide, H3BO3 Boric acid, SrCl2 Strontium chloride and NaF Sodium fluoride.
Then there's Epsom Salt MGSO4 Magnesium Sulfate. Which can be bought at many stores and people use them in baths to relax muscles and can be used as a laxative. It's also helpful in the aquarium for treating constipation as well as internal parasites in fish. If there's any other uses in the aquarium they're unknown to me.
As for the Nodosus, his color has darkened but he's still acting funny IMO. But Wes did send me some videos of other Nodosus he's sold to over seas that at least swam in the same way; Gulper like. It's the hovering at the top and not doing much else that still worries me. Still I'm trying to be hopeful as Wes said that's what they do when scared so I guess he just needs more time to settle. I'll try to take more pics later.
