Hey guys i finally set up my 36gallon tank last night and im trying to see what i can keep in it, im thinking of catfish, eel, and stingrays so i thought this would be a good place to ask for info ^^
I'll probably go with the majority being catfish and maybe 1 eel and 1 ray if possible. My tank is freshwater and as i said before, only 36 gallons so if you guys can give me some suggestions for what to put in it that would be great :D

p.s. I was also thinking of keeping a puffer or two in there but i dont know if they would be good tank mates for bottom dwellers on account of them being so aggressive : / any advice?

Stingrays will grow too big for such a tank unless you plan to get very young ones and have them there temporarily, there are some small cats that you could put in there but some of the puffers should do fine just be careful what you have them with.

ok thanks, what about eels? i saw, i believe they're called snowflake eels, at my lfs. Would that be too big for my tank? My friend said they would be ok but they need brackish water.

Not too familiar with that name, the snowflake that I know of is a saltwater moray eel but the one you speak of could be the soo called freshwater moray eel.I understand that they live in brackish while young and eventually need to live in salt water.

hmm i guess its a no go then : / any purely fresh water eels? i really want one

There are the tiretrack and fire eels.

i hope you can avoid disaster with this one
before you stock your tank you need a much firmer grasp on fishkeeping
what is the filtration? what is the substrate? what type of heater do you have? what is the nitrate? what is the ammonia? what is the nitrite? what is the ph? how often are you going to do water changes? what percent are the water changes going to be? how long has the tank been running? is it fully cycled?
once you can answer these questions then think about stocking ;)

I have a Top Fin 50 gallon power filter with the 3 layers of filtration (foam for mechanical, carbon for chemical, and BioMAX insert for biological.) I have regular sized gravel as the substrate, also Top Fin brand. I have a 200 watt submersible heater from Top Fin. I do not know the pH yet, i have not tested my water yet since this is my 2nd day of cycling, tomorrow i will go to petsmart and get my water tested and some tiger barbs (probably 5). And finally i clean my tank via gravel vacuum every 3 weeks as was told to me ( which sounds a little too much i will most likely do water changes weekly if it is better) and i will be taking 10-15% of water out as i have read is the suggested amount.

why isnt it filled up all the way?
it looks nice i would suggest against tiger barbs unless you know they will fit into your plans for the tank in the long term
i would suggest a couple cories because a bottom feeder will work in any tank
i would also suggest investing in a strip dip test kit
