If you saw my precious fish you would understand why she is named Precious.

She is beauty and penchant for killing all rolled up in one feisty little fish I tell you. :grinno:

I'm sure she's a real beauty. I was just trying to lighten the mood of what was quickly becoming an overly uptight thread.

Well all I want to say is nice pickup Cornbread. I would get into this conversation but I would rather read all you guys opinions and facts first.

Seeing how you have 6 now if you ever need to get rid of a few I got tanks for them!

Of course when you get some size on them and see which ones you want.

hey did you guys read these posts http://www.lem.net/alf/aeq.htm and http://www.cichlidae.com/forum/viewt...st=0&sk=t&sd=a The experts do not have it right so i do not expect us to have it right , Jeff Rapps is a very knowledgeable person, yes he makes mistakes but he said the fish are Aequidens rivulatus and i asked him before i got them whether or not these guys and sibler saum are the same and he said they are two different types of cichlids and i know for a fact he has had both types to know the different, so i am going to take him at his word, so i hope these fish look like the species in the first link i posted labeled as Aequidens rivulatus

Wisest post in the thread. It is much better to admit the limits of our knowledge than to pretend otherwise and proliferate misinformation.

Different types? Yes, certainly, but not necessarily different species. It is important to make that distinction and to use the word species for its true meaning.

This hobby would be so much better off if it had just stuck with the well established naming system that already existed and is governed by rules, rather than making the naming of fish a meaningless free-for-all. Calling a wild caught fish from a known location Aequidens cf. rivulatus Rio Pisco is infinately more useful than debating weather or not it is a gold/silver/silber saum or green terror...

oh I know. once I get a decent camera (video or otherwise) I plan to sho her off (and the newer one I got a month or so ago of which I am not sure what sex it is yet).

you should be able to tell from my other comments that I too was trying to lighten the mood.
