,I feel like the rat could be biting the hell out of the inside of the frog.
Oh, they do jason. That is why all mammillian flesh gets promptly euthanized.
And to RARE, I'm glad you are not the vicious type.

I really hope that pyxie has a good life bud.

if fed an appropriate sized prey item the frog will make short work of it. They have grasping teeth and very powerful jaws and the rat suffocates very quickly. However if you feed the frog an oversize prey item it will be difficult for the frog to dispatch of it quickly and you run the risk of the frog getting injured. Notice the frog in the video is large and it was able to almost completely crush and swallow the rat immediately.

yeah,I think I need to see the digestive trac of these guys to fully get the way they do this.Stomach with a mouth I guess.

have any of you seen bullfrogs eat birds etc in the wild? Birds have lots of sharp edges wouldnt you say.

Jason while it is possible for the frog to get harmed I promise you my frog was not harmed one bit. The rat was too busy trying to figure out where its next breath was coming from rather than eating a hole from the inside out of the frog.

Again the prey item was appropriately sized. A larger rat could of caused damage.

mammillian flesh? is that frog nerd talk for rats?

you seem very non vicious yourself. Tell us how you "promptly euthanize" by slamming the rat into a table top and crushing the life out it before feeding it to your frog, or maybe you are more humane than that and pin its head down while yanking its tail and cracking its spine. Im sure the rodent nerds over at the rat forum would love to hear that.

Crazy Vid ;) I just started feeding mine frozen mice. He's a beast :D

hey just know Im not here to fight.Im asking you this stuff as if were chillin with a beer and a cigar.I just like to overthink things and from the struggle rats put up back in the day with my snakes I would think those bastards would be biting like hell.Maybe we need that transparent frog those scientist came up with, lol.Realy though,Ive delt with rats forever and dont enjoy killing them but also know the risk if I dont so I just buy frozen when I can now.Thats just because I spent to much time watching the rats interact like a wuss so it ruined me.Anyways, cool frog, thanks for the info, and Im not here bashing your vid,he looks very healthy. You know darn well though when you post things like that you are going to have to do at least a wee bit of explaining and you did so cool. Not that you owe it to us,you know what I mean though. Thanks for the info.

It's tough for people to see a live animal being fed to anything besides a snake. And even then, people get offended. I don't like killing any mammal. Even though I'm starting to feed my guy frozen, I guess I somewhat take comfort knowing someone else did the dirty work.

People like to make the assumption that mice will tear up and/or injury these animals, but truth is, they do eat these in the wild and I'm sure a few scratches will heal quickly or do little damage to them. I have fed live feeders to fish that has been sick, but I see them as predators and predators feed on the weak and sick in the wild. I haven't lost a fish ever, due to a "bad" feeder. I'll probably be crucified for admitting that, but again...people have different views and you can't change someone's opinion unless they are willing to accept it. And when it comes to live feeders...there may be a lot of different reasons for doing it and unless they are willing to accept the reason, it will never settle with them.
