Hello, I write this post with a mashed brain.
I have owned a total of 5 ATF, in specific 1 FATF & 3 VATF.
I own 1 currently because the other 3 were attempts at previously keeping them that failed & 1 I sold.
My bass always seems to have a problem. It starts about 8months ago when I got my first VATF 3". I put it in a 3x1x1.5 grow out with 4 baby cichla roughly 1". Worked for a few weeks then 1 day I come into my room as my bass are attacking it, next minute its upside down, a few hours later & its dead.
I then purchased a 4" FATF, and once it hit 5-6" I put it with some new 1" cichla grow outs I had in a 4x1x1 hoping that the size difference would help. 24hrs later its dead.
I then purchased a VATF, this time I was sure not to put it with Bass (obviously) & put it into a 4x1.5x1.5 divided into 2 separate tanks, VATF 1 side & some more Cichla grow outs & datnoids on the other. I come down today to find a cichla in the ATF tank & the ATF is dead, again. This VATF was roughly 4" and these cichlas are 2".
My friend keeps a 6" VATF with 6-8" bass without problems, and his bullies the bass. I know VATF cannot stand stress or attacks very well & don't fight back. What annoys me is when I see people keeping bass & ATF together, but on 3 occasions its ended in fatality for me... is this a bass problem, an atf problem or possibly tank size without enough visual barrier?
I thought for such small fish, these grow out sizes would be perfect, but obviously not. I want to one day keep my final ATF with bass, but I'm not risking all my hard work & effort to get one large & risk a bass killing it with a few bashes. Any advice other than the obvious "don't mix it with bass duhhh" I see them mixed all over the internet, especially Facebook, so what is my limitation, water parameters always been 0,0, 20-60 in the ATF tanks, along with a ph of about 6.5-7.2 (tap water had an unstable phase), kh 3-6 & gh 4-7.
Thank You.
