Hatian gets to large for a 75 gallon and in my experience are difficult to care for.

I guess thats true. Ive read about Haitiensis being 16 inches, but never seen one over 12. Also, what makes Haitiensis more difficult to care for than any other species of aggressive cichlids? I have a young pair.

Well, if you have it solo not as hard just don't overfeed them or feed them foods like beefheart. From what others who have been successful have told me is stick with foods of vegetable or/and spirulina base. Absolutely no feeders or meaty type foods. I had one with my group and didn't know (I was dumb-still bothers me to this day) so feed them beefheart. He didn't eat for three days and died! Very delicate digestive system.

Grammodes are guapotes, thats why they have the look. Gt can be glass bangers. Stick with the Grammodes ( Mini- Dovii) A male can top out at 12in usually in captivity 9in is very common. You can also get a Red Tiger Motaguense. The male tops out at 12in. Medium sized guapote but still alot of attitude.

That didn't sound correct-don't feed them beefheart-that's what I am trying to say. Anyways in all my years of keeping cichlids Haitian has been the one I was never able to raise.

Good to know. Thanks.

I vary their diet daily with the following: cichlid sticks, hikari gold floating pellets, earthworms, crickets, frozen bloodworms, flake crisps (as the haitians I have are 4 inches), algae pellets & freeze dried krill.

Maybw I am wrong but you might want to ask around but I would stay away from the earthworms and maybe even the crickets.

why no earthworms or crickets? You cant just say no and not state why. I think that your oscar will eventually outgrow the 75, but thats way down the road. Also, I have owned 4 GTs and they have been the wussiest fish. I had a 7-8" GT that was being owned by a severum that was a little smaller. I hear about people who have aggressive GTs, but have yet to see it myself. I even have an oscar thats more aggressive than the larger GT he'sin a tank with.
