I have 125g with way more fish (large) in the tank that get along great with no probs.

Yeah because they have no room to get angry. they have to conserve their oxygen so they can live for the next day. If i were your fish i would fight all the time so i would lose oxygen and die.

It's hard for beginners to realize a 50 gallon is not large enough, when I first started I thought a 55 could hold anything lol. If you have the space some larger tanks are not much more expensive used than 55 gallons.

just fork out the extra money and get a 125. you could keep 3 then. but if your going to do a 50 then at max a single dempsey.

I think they would get along pretty decent but if you did that I would watch the devil and jag real good they can have a real meaness, but every fish is different, as to 50g tank does seem a little small but read my thread on (crazy stocking??). Just because your the 1 in a thousand that it worked for doesen't mean you need to recomend it to others. You just got lucky enough that your fish are the exception to the rule, but that can change still at the drop of a hat. This is a tank that is too small for a full grown fish of any of the fish mentioned except the JD even though personally I agree with a 55g being to small for them too.

I agree with most the others. Save your money and be patient. Just do searches on "Craigslist" for "fish" or Aquarium" and you will be a bigger tank for cheaper then a smaller one brand new.

Craigslist is your friend.

after you type in what youre looking for and your zipcode, when it pulls up the list of things youre looking for, there is a slider on the top left where you can expand the search by miles.
