Agressive Peacock? Not sure what to do??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
right, but if he is getting rid of one of them, it does not matter... hints why I said take out the weaker see if he colors up well, if not get rid of the weaker one... the smaller one, if females are present wants to breed, if females are big enough remover weaker and soon you will have fry!

weak one out, and give it a week.. he needs to destress lol

just make sure that the water of the other tank is near identicle to that of your big tank, ph temp etc.. or you wont get a true feel of what the weaker's true color would be. just a thought

do you have females in the tank too?

Yes there are females, thats what I figured it would be.

If you remove the weaker of the two you will never be able to put it back into the tank with the more dominant male still in there. Thats not my opinion, thats basically fact. Try rearranging the tank so that they can reestablish territories, maybe that will help.

I have removed the weaker one, the tank is much happier surprisingly the aggression was affecting everyone obviously. If I choose to keep the weaker one I will be removing the more aggressive fish anyway, so it should not be an issue. I will also rearrange a bit so as to help everyone start on an equal level, was planning to redecorate anyway.

Exactly. There are females, I figured he wanted to breed, he is trying like a little horny devil right now haha. Seems to have worked to fix all the issues, I will wait about a week and see how things stand.

A week it is! I figured it had to be a little while, the weak one is still pretty much hiding all the time in the 10g, but moved around a bit after a few hours of just relaxing, I think he was under constant badgering.

Well I dont think they will match exactly, but they should be relatively close. I am going to give him a decent amount of time to get used to the new tank so I can get a real good feeling, I didnt expect him to come popped out with colors in a few hours, just wastnt sure how long I should really give him.

Thanks for all the help everyone! I will keep you posted...

If the two fish come out looking approximatly the same in color which do you think I should keep? Thats what I am trying to think about now...if they are equal in looks, which demeaner would be better?

let us know how it works!!!!!!!!! I wanna see fry!!!!!!!! and why do you have mixed males in a tank with females?

haha fry I already have! I even got one swimming around the big tank, about 1.5". Well I did not know that having mixed males was an issue honestly. I read some place that if there are no females present the males wont take on full coloring? So I wanted 2 males and say 4-6 females? Is that not the best way? I am still learning alot so suggestions are certainly welcome.

How has the weaker one taken to the move?

Before you sell or trade the sub dom. male you seperated you might want to pull out the aggressive male from his females and drop in the sub to see if the females accept him and if he colors up nice for the females. I had one of my peacocks pulled out in a 30 gallon once and he was drab for a month, when i dropped it in the main tank 2 days later he colored up nice to attract the females but he was not as accepted as the dominant one. OFten a less aggressive fish will become aggressive when the dominant fish is removed and start beating up fish like the dom. fish did so you might want to test both of them with the females for a week or so to be 100 percent.

He has taken to the move quite well. He is starting to color up really nice today, I will give him a few more days then I will switch the weak and aggressive fish for a week and make the final decision.
