Air pumps

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use the TETRA TEC DEEP WATER pumps....I have "bendable" bubble walls that you can shape into circles or squiggley lines! I run air pumps on all of my tanks...I like the look of the bubbles, and the fish like to swim through them!

your worthless and pointless but we love you anyway :grinno:

HAHAHAH

I use a Aqua Culture 20-60 gallon/double outlet pump. It is pretty quiet with sound, its not like a jackahmmer, I would say that my regular filter is louder than the airator. I have it with one wand thingy lieing down in one side at one corner in the back, and another round stone just sitting in the other back corner. The wand is covered under rocks and the stone is just there, but it has lots of bubbles so I cant notice the tube going to it. Theres lots-o-stuff in the tank so I wouldn't want to be with out it. :D

I have a tetratec dw-24 on my smaller tanks, Have had it for atleast 10 years an just replaced the Diaphrams last week.

On my 120 I have a Dynamaster dual piston pump, Pumps alotve air but be a tad noisy.

Howdy,

His words are harsh, but Piranha45 has a good point. You don't really need airpumps if you have a decent filter and turnover of your water. If you like the way it looks, though, that's a completely different aspect.

Yeah thats true but most of the time our tanks are extremely huge and more often than not, the water cant be evenly distributed around the whole tank. So instead of using powerheads to help with water circulation, we use airpumps which are cheaper in running costs.

Howdy,

I see your point. I also depends on your filtration. If you have a big canister filter, you could split the inflow and have two or more nozzles leading the water back into the tank. I have an Eheim 2080 for a 220 gal tank and it does the job with just one inflow.

Just one more thing about the airpump: If you keep plants: It expells CO2 from the water. That's especially bad if you have a CO2 system. Basiically, that system is in vain then.

I view air pumps as the cheapest way to add more water movement to a tank. And since the airstones are at the bottom of the tank and most fitter outlets are at the top,it helps move the the bottom water up,especially if you plan out filter, airstone, heater placement.
