Your story wasnt straight with me.

you said you will keep pictus in 20gal then suddenly you said you will keeping them in 38gal? Whats in the 38gal?

So you have 10ish green sunnies in 29gal with albino channel catfish? What you doing with 10ish green sunnies when they were fullgrown after you put them in pond? where will you keeping green sunnies next winter?

I dont think your bud will get bigger tank as he's probably getting 55 or 100gal when his grandma can afford as the big tanks are very expensive (probably around $300 or more for whole tank kits) plus his mom probably will not be thrilled with two huge catfish will stinking up in her house. They cant make any promises about pond. If they were getting pond, then you need to realized that they cant keeping albino catfish forever. Where will they keeping 24 inch long catfish during winter?

And why you need two common pleco for? You could get bristlenose or rubberlips pleco instead of these monster pleco. Sounds like you dont research on them and ahead get them without any plans for them...

Why you want albino channel catfish? :irked:

Please no more "im gonna give these fish to my friend" excuses, it wont be working on me as theres not LOTS of 13 years olds have huge tanks laying around..

I'm beginning to wonder how old you are?
And maybe we could offer more constructive criticism than putting people down all the time? Maybe offer the kid some cheaper solutions or other options? not just "you cant keep them, your stupid for trying, give up"

The pictus are a good alternative to large cats, and yes they will need a heater.
If you need a "temp tank" for your cats or sunnies, tupperwares make good cheap solutions. Large tubs could work awhile depending on how large you get them. Make sure you filter them some how, and stick a heater in there for anything that would need a heater.

I don't think you should rely on your friend until you actually see that he has the tank. Try to make arrangements for yourself and your fish. If all else fails, enjoy them for awhile, and then find them better homes somehow like craigslist or the sell and buy area on this site...

ill go try the pond page site thing and i heard that in captivity the cats only get around 2' in they r store bought...i guess i was wrong then huh?..

Just want you to know that all the scenarios you are looking at right now for those channel cats are expensive and impractical. Seriously, I know that you love your cats, but channels should really be keeped by those who can provide for them. Take them back, get some pictus that will live for life in the tanks you have now. In the future, when you are SURE that you can care for them, get a few. They are great fish.
It is a frusterating part of the hobby that we can't always keep what we want. I'm 30 years old and want channels, but won't get them because I don't have the space for them right now. This applies to lots of fish I want: rays, redtail cats, pacus, black tip reef shark.... the list can go on forever really. I know that someday I will be able to keep these fish, but at this minute in time it would be irresponsible. So for now I enjoy what I have and look forward to keeping others in the future. Good luck.

Lol but do you know HOW MANY TIMES we told gar man do RESEARCH on the fish before BUY THEM especially we told him that in past threads, so thats why i was upset about him not take that advice. In past he kept the gars, the channel catfish and bass, he get rid of them but now hes back to his old habits and never learned any thing from his past thread. Thats why I was so disappointed.

Since he kept albino catfish with wild green sunnies and theres VHS going on in Iowa, so im not sure its good idea to sell/give away the natives in Iowa, even if they come from store unless he still have recipent from pet store. But since the catfish are kept with sunfish (mostly likely farm pond raised), the rules required them to be test for VHS before sell/give away them to. I heard there will be new rule about VHS regulations soon.

I guess the Bass Pro idea were out as they dont want diseased fish in their display tanks.

Gar man, you cant put the fish in the pond outside right now, they will died from shocking and too cold water, so its too late for do that till next spring.

Lots of things in this response bother me. You are making a lot of assumtions about his fish. How can you even begin to know if his fish have vhs. Man, that's like saying there is the flu going around in california so everyone there must have the flu.
Honestly what he keeps is his business and he is coming here for help, not to be slammed. This hobby does have a learning curb and what is "right" depends on who or where he gets his info. We are only here to give our opinions, not nail him to the wall, which you have a habit of doing to anyone you disagree with.
And with fish being taken by Bass Pro or something like that, only a pipe dream. Never should be in the plans as they only very very very rarely take private fish. Taking them from a kid hobbiest is probably on their "heck no" list.
Try to be constructive, not destructive...

Lol i dont care about what you say about me ...the new rules required to have any natives to be test for VHS before sell them. In case you dont know Iowa are on watch list for VHS.

Alright, well I was saying he could find a new home for the cats since im pretty sure he just got them from an lfs, quiet frankly having 10 sunnies in the same rather small tank they will most likely cull themselves, or Gar Man, you may want to cull them out yourself.

Thats what I had to do with my yellow perch. I started with 8 of them and some of them didn't make it, and I culled out some of the less desirable ones till I was down to 2 perch. Now they are fat and happy as can be and are best friends with my channel cats :D

Yeah i know that he got them from LFS, its just as with VHS going on in Iowa and other states, rehome them will be very diffuclt, the best option for the albino is take them back to store.

Now, if your telling all of us that he couldn't rehome them because of VHS, that they probably have by now because of the sunnies, according to you, how in the WORLD would it be ethical and right to take the diseased channels back to the LFS where they could infect a large number of fish there, which would then be sold to other people, and spread the VHS that much more.
Now tell me how you see that being a good idea?

ok i asked my mom if she could take me to the lfs and she said these exact words:"you have to learn to be happy with what you have and you will keep the catfish and you cant buy and more fish for a long time" omg help!
