This stuff killed several convicts, another unidentified cichlid, and sadly,my blood parrot cichlid.I have used it twice, and both times I lost fish. The first time I accidentily used too much of it,and so I thought it was my fault that the fish died. This time I used the correct dosage, and the fish actually died faster.

well seee it probably has copper sulfate in it! and copper sulfate will kill most anything with enough of it! so if the dosage is even a lil to much the fish will die! copper sulfate needs to be in a 1ppm! which is very small and if your bottle said to put more in then thats your out come!

so lesson! stay away from anything that involves sopper sulfate!

barley straw works well! iin about 2 weeks it will activate and fungus(debatable on whether bacteria or fungus) will start decomposing the barley straw and in the decomposing process they fungus/bacteria willl release a byproduct preventing new algae growth! so this will give more of a chance of the new algae dieng! sometimes killing algae too!:D

I just had a very simillar thing happen to my 29gal growout tank. I lost 10 cichlids (a combo of while labs, lemon jakes, birchardi and green terrors) so I will never use Algaefix again. This is not the first time that I used this product but after some research I will never recommend this product to anyone. Sorry about your loss and I know what its like.

Active ingredient is Trichloros-triazinetrione

are chemicals that are one or more of the following: highly acutely toxic, cholinesterase inhibitor, known/probable carcinogen, known groundwater pollutant or known reproductive or developmental toxicant. NOTE! Because there are no authoritative lists of Endocrine Disrupting (ED) chemicals, EDs are not yet considered PAN Bad Actor chemicals

This is why i dont use any chemicals or meds in my tank. I will go with the most natrual stuff i can get or use my hands.

too bad man.
well now you know.
lesson learned

ouch sorry about the loss. i've seen those products for sale around my area too, and even tough it's advertised as safe, i never trusted them. i could always depend on a good pleco for algae control anyway.
