This stuff killed several convicts, another unidentified cichlid, and sadly,my blood parrot cichlid.I have used it twice, and both times I lost fish. The first time I accidentily used too much of it,and so I thought it was my fault that the fish died. This time I used the correct dosage, and the fish actually died faster.
Ok bro.. let's examine the situation.
You need Algae Fix, because you have Algae.
You have Algae, because you have high Nitrates.
You have high Nitrates, because you don't change the water enough.
I see an Oscar in your avatar, and you state it killed 'several' convicts, a blood parrot and an 'unidentified' cichlid. This leads me to believe that, unless you have multiple tanks, you have a cichlid community tank that is likely over-stocked.
The fact that the other cichlid is 'un-identified' means that you might not do as much research as needed for you to be succesful at what your trying to accomplish.
Now, if you had an algae problem I am sure you could have gotten advice from multiple sources, but instead tried to take a quick and simple way out. (hence the lack of research).. If you would have inquired about these products before using them, you could have been forwarned of the problems with them.
Using Algacides often kill off your bio-filter, disallowing it to break down Ammonia.
Using Algacides often kill off a large amount of algae, creating a spike in Ammonia
You already had poor water quality, probably worse than you knew. Although algae will consume nitrates that are accumulating from not changing water, your Dissolved Organic Compounds (DOCs) would build-up and those don't register on testing kits. Combine high Nitrates, DOCs, an Ammonia Spike with a weak Bio-Filter, and an over-crowded cichlid tank.. and guess what you get?
You admitted that you have over-dosed in the past, which means you might have a hard time following direction. Direction, such as the advice that some might try to give you, like change water more often and manually remove algae. Advice like this will allow for your fish to be healthier and live longer, and also dismiss accusations of fish-safe chemicals that weren't used properly.
So..
Before you blame the Chemical..
You might consider..
It was your own fault?
PS. If you use an algacide for rays, you need to not have rays.
