ALL FISH DEAD

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I really doubt it was oscar puke, such a big tank and such hardy fish it would take quite a bit of vomit to do something like that. sorry for you loss man, I also believe it was a chemical contamination from some source I do not know

Oscars are really tough. I've had one since when I first started in the hobby and he survived my monthly maintenances - changing ALL the water and sometimes cleaning out the filter at the same time.

I doubt that a few puked up feeders in the water would kill it, especially in such a big tank. The feeders would also need some time to start decaying and releasing ammonia...

Edit: The above mentioned maintainance schedule is no longer practiced ;)

ok, you gotta understand women, shes at home, shes cleaning, shania twain is screamin from the stereo, the house is shining like a chrome bumber, she is on a cleaning binge, all aquariums look dirty to women, she sprays a little but a lot comes out, oh crap right in the tank, dead fish

im sure shes learned her lesson, no need to ever bring it up again, buy more fish and get over it

thats the only way chemicals smell would get in there, my oscars have puked a million times over the years, its all eaten back up before it hits the gravel, no long term damage

Wow, pure common sense! You ROCK dude!:woot:

First, to all of the decent women on the board, I apologize in advance if you take this the wrong way. I do not mean the following comments as a blanket statement of all women.

Since you seem to be gone often and for days at a time, I am thinking that something may be amiss in paradise. I am speaking from experience due to my last girlfriend (she was like a door knob). She had a group of friends that I never met but would only hear about. Some would come to the house when I was at work, yet I never met them…I saw the signs but chose to ignore them. My girlfriend would never leave me, and out of resentment, her “friends” did me some really nice favors…like giving me a $300 phone bill to some psychics that kept on billing three months after I gave her the boot…and the one I love the most, the guy that stole half of the stuff from my garage WITH MY GIRLFRIENDS CONSENT. She wasn’t mad at me in the least. It is just that I was employed and she was not. That and I couldn’t make her scream my name when I was gone (though everyone else could). Ok, so you get the idea. Now let me tell you about the guy that peed in another guys fish tank…jumping out and dead in minutes.

You should've gotten the shotgun out on the drunks!!!

(Either they were drunk or they all hated you for some reason)

So I'm a girl. And I don't kill fish. That would be cruel. Actually I know more about caring for animals than any other guy I know (well except for Scott me LFS owner). Give the girl some credit. Why would she poison them and then promptly call you. And you other guys that automatically jump there because you had girl friend issues.... sounds like you guys sure can pick them. Remember the door swings both ways my former boyfriend always complained that I gave more attention to my fish tanks, and he was totally jealous of my dog.

....Why would she poison them and then promptly call you.....

TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE SHE DIDN'T DO IT!!!!!

We aren't trying to blame her......(some might be)

We are just trying to say that it COULD have been her

If a guy was in the room we would suspect him too!!!!

No offense to women

I agree, a properlly filtered 240 should be able to handle oscar puke, and even if the other fish couldnt oscars are hardy hardy fish, maybe she put straight ammonia in the tank by accident or on purpose, a lot of people use straight ammonia to clean, maybe she accidentlly got it in there that way

I've not been given a reason to suspect her. It was said that the fish went crazy and jumped out, I don't believe pouring straight ammonia would cause that effect...more like roll over and backstroke. So, unless anyone wants to admit to doing this and watching what happened, we'll never know.
