I don't think so.. it would have had to get really really cold, and then the heaters kicked back on and got the tanks to normal temp.. In my experience it takes a very long time for heaters to pull a large aquariums temp up, especially from that cold.
Water change would not be that big of a problem. Even if she didn't do one for a month the fish would die one by one not all at once.
I have had power out on my tanks for a full day - 2 days not even knowing ( eheims are too quiet) and my fish have done absolutely fine.
Sorry for the losses. I would be in a hole if my fish died emotionally and money wise too. If all my fish died all at once it would lose about $2,200.
Luckly you don't have very expensive fish. This also gives you a chance to go in a new direction of fish keeping.
very sorry for all you losses. It only seems smart to say that what killed all your fish must have been air born.In order to loose all your fish in various sets ups it would have to be something toxic in the air or sabotage. Are your tanks well covered?Did you just have a bad brake up?Did you do water changes to all the tanks before this happened?
i'm not planning to stock up anytime soon..give it a couple of months and see how i feel. i might just kick the hobby...i dunno. just losing all my fish at once is a big blow. just loads of hard work gone down the drain. but if i do give up then i have sooo many empty tanks lying around. perhaps i will put them in storage and start up in a couple of years. will see how i feel in a few months.
thats a real shame, i know how you feel........
strange mind how it was more than one tank, as said did you do waterchanges?maybe a chemical in your bucket........heaters all ok?temp of tanks ok? have you moved fish from one tank to another?........happy 2009
That really sucks... Was there any painting going on? Or it could be something that was added to the water by the city that is not rendered safe by water conditioner. Perhaps a higher than normal level of chloramines were added to your water. You could check with the water works department to see if they added anything new lately. I'm sorry for your loss.
