Loaches? In oxygen depleted waters, they will simply die. All loaches require high levels of oxygen.;)
ok brb. im gonna burn the freakin reference book that told me that.
:wall: :duh:

I just thought of something. Sometimes (usually in summer months) tap water and even toilet water comes out brown. It lasts anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Its just like silt or even rust...Im not sure. It usually happens after drought. Were you noticing anything like that? also can you test the water? and does the water smell? Does anyone smoke alot near that tank? Thats not good for the water either. Did you recently add new substrate/decor and not rinse it?

the only explanation is the building going on i think...the whole house was dusty etc. it couldn't have been my water quality, i do them religiously and i know it was in excellent condition. they were also putting down woodwork on the floors so perhaps it was the varnish they used. i noticed my door was left open a lot. thanks for all the support, guys :)

I hope you will stick with or find your way back to the hobby. I always try to look for the good in every bad situation and find a way to grow from it. In this case, you already experienced one of the worst of the worst, and not letting it keep you down would be something.

Im sorry for your losses. May this year be a better one.

im so sorry to hear this happened! i would just cry.

you said there is alot of building going on- could they have sprayed something and it was in the air and ended up settling on the surface of the water, and poisoned the fish.

the only other thing i could think is maybe you did waterchanges (around the same time- or same day) and your water company added a chemical? if i were you, id just call the water company and see if they changed anything -and tell them all your fish died.

im so sorry to hear this!

awww neer, I am so sorry! I know how attached you were to your critters. This is such a shame! I hope you don't give up on the hobby and that you are able to determine what happened.

thanks for being understanding guys. it cant be because of power outtage...i've noticed it takes about a day or something for the temps to go up or down in big tanks..the builders were varnishing wooden floors and the stuff they used smelt really strong...perhaps its that...that is the only reasonable explanation really. they all just dropped like flies overnight.
