Alligator gar do not get 10 feet long. There is little evidence to support this presumption aside from some ancient untrustworthy literature and likely doctored photos. In captivity this size is reduced even further. Five foot however is still not a Guppy sized fish.... Prepare accordingly.
10 feet doesn't seem like much of a stretch for the biggest a individual could possible be, do to over fishing almost none of the fish we see today in the wild are at their max size if they live a long time(females live 50 years if lucky). here is a 8 foot one

hope it works out!

thanks for clearing that, so ill put them at the same time when they are both pretty much the same size, cuz i heard when some fish grow up together they dont eat eachother. like my red ear slide turtles and my blood parrots. i know the RTC grows faster cuz when i get the RTC he'll be 4" and idk about the Gar so ill tell my petshop dude to get me one the only feeds on pellets...

That will not work with Gator gar... They really do not care if they Grow up together... Gator gar are totally Picicidal fish that have no issues killing anything at anytime. They really do not care to make friends all that much and their memory is rather short about what they can and can not place in their mouth. If a gator gar feels like it wants to eat or kill something it just does it.

Please read this again:
"A small RTC becomes Gator munchies a Small Gator becomes RTC munchy. They grow at vastly different rates at different times so need to be placed together only when growth in both has been stabilized and is steady. This is particularly tricky to do for the first few years in both of these fish. Growth in both can be explosive and seasonal in nature."

Sure OK.. Now would you like me to post data on over a couple hundred fish documented for the past some odd 150 years that also never show a single documented fish over 9 foot? Only references that state this 10 foot stuff is anecdotal, Mythology, wishful thinking, or doctored. They do get 8 foot and even 8.5 and this has been very well documented, as for this mythical two and a Half feet above this.... ummmm. no not really. There is no evidence for it.

It is time for Misinformation about this fish to go away in many ReGARds... It has been too long this myth and crap has been spread about and the real record and truth needs to be represented.

I didn't say they are likely to get that big just it may be possible for 1 out of 10's of thousands to get that big. Just like there are a few humans that are over 8 feet tall, abnormalities do happen. I think it's possible.

picture of one that is supposed to be 10 foot,

Sorry failed to mention each step in my pond is 1.5 i have 3steps so its about 3.5 feet deep

1.5x3 is 4.5 and a 9'x6'x4.5' pond can hold almost 1800g of water and it will be good enough for the gator gars.

perun, didnt u even have a gator(well hybrid) that attacked even u?
